Four-star QB Ryan Montgomery reacts to South Carolina offer

Four-star QB Ryan Montgomery reacts to South Carolina offer

Findlay (Oh.) class of 2025 four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery has been on the South Carolina recruiting radar for some time, taking a visit to Columbia last month, and late last week he received some news he had been hoping for — an offer from offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains and the Gamecocks.

“I was super excited,” Montgomery told GamecockCentral. “I was confident it was coming at some point but wasn’t sure when so to connect with Coach Loggains and (Shane) Beamer was awesome.”

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal-caller said after his unofficial visit to Columbia that meeting and spending time with Loggains was one of the highlights of that stop, and they’ve been continuing to get to know each other in the weeks after.

Loggains was also in Ohio last week to watch Montgomery throw in person before offering a couple of days later.

“We have been in steady contact I would say and I know my dad enjoys picking his brain on things,” Montgomery said. “His personality and experience stick out to me, especially in the NFL. I plan to Zoom with him again in June.”

In addition to his growing relationship with Loggains, Montgomery also said following his in-person visit that he liked Beamer’s vibe.

“(Beamer) is great. His energy is awesome,” Montgomery said. “I have no doubt we will be successful at South Carolina. They really had a great year last season and are looking to be even better. It seems like they are recruiting at a very high level as well.”

While some prospects will continue to take visits in June, Montgomery went ahead and knocked many of his out for now in the spring.

He wants to use the summer to focus on the basketball circuit before getting back on the football recruiting visit trail in the fall, when a South Carolina visit for a game will definitely be on the docket.

“I am excited about the game day atmosphere down there as I am told it is wild,” Montgomery said. “I can’t wait to see that as well as how Spencer (Rattler) leads coach’s offense.”

Mongomery did, however, tell On3’s Chad Simmons a couple of weeks ago (before the South Carolina offer) that a list of top schools may be coming soon.

“I’m looking to narrow the list down this summer sometime, whether that’s June, July or August,” said Montgomery, who is “still 100 percent open” in his recruitment. “I’m definitely looking forward to doing that. With the open period this spring, it will determine possible June visits and then fall visits, as well. I’d like to have this all wrapped up before my senior year of football. Maybe this time next year, I would like to have my decision made.”

Montgomery is the No. 209 overall prospect and No. 14 quarterback in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 8 player in Ohio.
