Four-star point guard talks South Carolina offer, updates recruitment

South Carolina recently hopped into the recruitment for a top 60 player Bishop Boswell, and the Gamecocks are starting to turn up the interest for a somewhat local prospect.

The Gamecocks extended an offer this week before Boswell and his CP3 team went to Peach Jam, and they had an assistant at each of his two games so far of the current live period and Lamont Paris there Friday.

“It was pretty recent they started reaching out and I had a good talk with coach and they offered. It’s cool. It’s always nice to have an offer from a college close to home for you.”

Boswell is a somewhat local prospect, playing at Myers Park in the Charlotte area just about 90 minutes away from South Carolina’s campus.

The rising senior also plays for CP3, the same grassroots program that former Gamecock GG Jackson played for before coming to South Carolina.

“It’s been a great program that everyone knows about. It’s a big school,” he said. “GG (Jackson) went there recently, who I knew. He played on CP3 so there’s a legacy of guys going there. It’s definitely a great program.”

South Carolina has been in contact for a few weeks now with the four-star point guard and thinks he could be a good fit in what Lamont Paris is trying to build.

“(They think I) kind of can do a little bit of everything and I have a good frame,” Boswell said. “I can come in and be an impact guy early. Just pretty much a little bit of everything.”

Paris has talked about his guards-heavy system and allowing those guys to really play their games, something Boswell has noticed.

“A lot of the schools recruiting me play faster and that’s one of them. They like to be up-tempo and get going fast. So that fits my game.”

On3 considers Boswell the No. 50 overall player in the class while being the No. 7 point guard. He checks in at No. 62 in the Industry Rankings and as the ninth-best point guard.

He has one visit set up for next month, the first week of August to Wake Forest, with Xavier, Georgia, VCU, Mississippi State and Missouri also showing interest along with the Gamecocks.

Boswell said South Carolina is “absolutely” in the running to get one of his official visits.

“Just the family feel. Then the style of play and a game that can fit me,” he said on what he’s looking for. “Somewhere I can go and get better.”

Boswell–who was a two-sport athlete for a while (football, basketball) is now all basketball focused.

“There’s still a long way to go but I definitely came a long way as well. There’s still a lot of underrated aspects of my game,” Boswell said. “My shot’s improved a lot but I still have to play better this week to get where we want to.”
