Four-star linebacker confirms he’ll attend Penn State’s White Out vs. Iowa

Four-star linebacker confirms he’ll attend Penn State’s White Out vs. Iowa

Penn State head coach James Franklin and his coaching staff may have their focus set on Illinois this upcoming weekend, but those in the recruiting department are already looking ahead to next weekend’s White Out game against Iowa. The Nittany Lions have already hosted one massive recruiting weekend this season, with well over 100 prospects attending the season opener against West Virginia.

Many of the region’s best players were in attendance for that game, but there are still plenty of others who haven’t visited in recent months.

Four-star Virginia linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh is one of those players. After picking up an offer from the Nittany Lions in June 2022 following a strong performance at camp, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound interior linebacker returned to Penn State last October for the White Out against Minnesota. Now, he’s set to return for the first time in 11 months next weekend, confirming his plans with Blue White Illustrated today.

“The visit was great,” Clatterbaugh said following last year’s game. “It’s just something about the energy and passion of all 110,000 fans in white. It’s an experience that nothing compares to.”

He went on to add, “Penn State has always had good things to say about me and has always been really interested. Every time I’m up they show great enthusiasm and find time to talk with me.”

Since May 2022, Clatterbaugh has earned more than 20 total scholarship offers. His list features no shortage of prominent schools, with Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame and Ohio State all extending offers.

So far this year, Clatterbaugh has taken two trips to Georgia, including last weekend’s game against Ball State. He also went to Notre Dame and Virginia Tech back in April.

In addition to Georgia, Clatterbaugh has visited Penn State, Clemson, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Virginia and Virginia Tech all at least twice.

Currently, the On3 Industry Ranking rates him at No. 259 nationally. He’s the 27th-ranked linebacker and No. 7 overall in Virginia for his class.

Other Expected Visitors for Penn State White Out

In addition to Clatterbaugh, a handful of 2025 prospects have also informed Blue White Illustrated that they plan to attend. Our staff will have a much more complete list next week, but as of now, these are just some of the 2025 prospects we expect to be in attendance next Saturday.
