Four-star in-state 2026 DB Marcello Vitti talks Michigan, recent staff changes
Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy serves as the area recruiter in the Detroit-metro and recently made the rounds during the spring evaluation period.
Bellamy made sure to stop by Dearborn (Mich.) Divine Child to see four-star 2026 defensive back Marcello Vitti.
“It was a good visit,” Vitti said. “We talked after he left, and I told him things have been different since Coach Clink (Steve Clinkscale) and Coach Jay Harbaugh left. He told me CJ (Sadler) and I are their top in-state targets. They continue to see me as a nickel and the next (Mike) Sainristil. Their defense hasn’t changed.
“He’s now the recruiting point in the area with Coach Clink gone. I’m going to visit Michigan soon. The visit (from Bellamy) definitely put Michigan back on my radar. He said I have to connect with the new DB coaches.”
Vitti picked up an offer from Michigan more than a year ago. A lot has changed since then, including Sherrone Moore replacing Jim Harbaugh as head coach.
“He won the Ohio State game, so it shows that he can coach,” Vitti said. “I think that Coach Harbaugh cares about Michigan and wouldn’t leave them in bad hands, so I think Coach Moore definitely knows what he’s doing. I think he’ll do well.”
Michigan also has a new secondary coach in LaMar Morgan and defensive coordinator Wnk Martindale. Vitti is looking forward to meeting both at some point in the near future.
“We’ll have to see how the staff changes go,” Vitti said. “I do think it’s important to get coaches that have coached in the NFL. They’ve been around those guys and can help kids that want to make it to the NFL. I just have to meet them in person and get to know them.”
Vitt paid close attention to Michigan last season and was impressed with the Wolverines’ run to the national title.
“I was very impressed with them,” Vitti said. “It was great to watch Will Johnson. I train with the same people that he trains with. Mike Sainristil is an idol for me. I watched him throughout the season and the combine. I loved watching them.”
Vitti is looking to make a return visit to Michigan at some point this offseason.
“I just want to see the facilities and campus again,” Vitti said. “I want to meet with the coaches and get to know them. I just want to reset recruiting with them.”
Along with Michigan, Vitti holds offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, Penn State, Tennessee, West Virginia and others.
At 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, Vitti is ranked as the No. 23 athlete and No. 266 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
