Four-star IMG linebacker believes he can put ‘name on the map’ in Miami

Four-star IMG linebacker believes he can put ‘name on the map’ in Miami

With Aug. 1 marking the first day that college programs were able to reach out to 2025 prospects, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng says the Miami Hurricanes were one of, if not the first school to reach out, which left a big impression on the four-star defender.

“Miami reached out at 12 a.m. on the dot,” Owusu-Boateng told CaneSport. “Knowing that they did that is just showing that they have a really big role for me. That makes me feel like I can go over there and just put my name on the map.”

After offering Owusu-Boateng in April, Miami and linebackers coach Derek Nicholson have continued to impress the No. 27 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, who is loving what he has heard from the Hurricanes thus far.

“Miami’s message is just mostly on how I could potentially come there, start my freshman year, and just do what I do,” Owusu-Boateng said. “Coach Nicholson is a great guy. He’s like a motivational speaker and really gets players going. He’s just a really great guy.”

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder last visited Coral Gables in April and hopes to return this fall for a game-day visit.

“It was great; everyone was showing me love,” Owusu-Boateng said. “Coach DNic, the staff, the trainers, just everybody.”

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Florida is the current favorite to land the No. 3 linebacker in the 2025 class, leading all schools with a 31.3% probability, with Miami sitting behind the Gators with a 27.4% probability.

Currently, there are no frontrunners for Owusu-Boateng, who says all schools are on an even playing field at the moment, but he does know what he’ll be looking at when searching for his future home.

“For me, coming here (IMG Academy) you want to see a brotherhood aspect, and I think that’s going to carry on,” Owusu-Boateng said. “Seeing what schools can do for me off the field is big. You’re not going to be playing football your whole life, so just what can a school do for me off the field and just that brotherhood aspects of it all too.”

With his recruitment beginning to take shape and schools looking to solidify themselves as true contenders, Owusu-Boateng knows exactly what he wants to see from the Hurricanes moving forward.

“One thing from Miami that I would want to see is them stepping out and showing that I have nowhere else to go,” Owusu-Boateng said. “I want them to show that they are the school that’s going to really impact me. Not just on the field but off the field as well.”

CaneSport’s take

Miami has made it known that Owusu-Boateng is wanted in Coral Gables, and the Hurricanes have his attention early on. While Owusu-Boateng could not single one team out as a frontrunner, hearing him say that ‘One thing from Miami that I would want to see is them stepping out and showing that I have nowhere else to go’, is a sign that the Hurricanes may have the opportunity to set the tone and establish themselves as the team to beat in his recruitment.
