Four-star EDGE Jaylen Harvey: Florida Gators are ‘very, very high’ on his list

Four-star EDGE Jaylen Harvey: Florida Gators are ‘very, very high’ on his list

After spending several days at Florida for an official visit, Potomac (Md.) Quince Orchard EDGE Jaylen Harvey went to Twitter on Sunday to announce a commitment date of July 4.

Harvey, a four-star prospect, received a scholarship offer from the Gators in mid-April and quickly built rapport with outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson. Inside linebackers coach Jay Bateman is also playing a pivotal role and has strong connections throughout the DMV.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Harvey is the No. 23-ranked EDGE and No. 343-ranked prospect overall.

“It was great. It was a great experience for me and my family,” Harvey told Gators Online and others. “We went to Dave and Busters, the basketball arena, and then we did a tour, saw the academics and then business side of it.”

Another highlight for Harvey was receiving a more in-depth presentation on his projected fit. He is being courted to play on the edge at JACK but also capable of much more than wreaking havoc in the backfield as a pass rusher.

Those on-field possibilities in Gainesville are a major reason why Florida is a stock-up school for Harvey.

“It was good because they all had different personalities,” Harvey said of the staff. “They talked about how they would use me. I would be an offensive guy but on defense. They would use me any way they can. I would play the JACK and (like that) you can be free. You can be on the line, rush the passer, go out in coverage, blitz, all that.”

Two official visits to go for Jaylen Harvey

Prior to journeying down to Gainesville, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound Harvey took an official visit to Penn State. James Franklin’s program is trending heavily in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine as well, checking in with odds north of 90 percent.

With his commitment less than a month away, Harvey also has June official visits booked with USC and Maryland. Those trips are set for June 16 and June 23, respectively.

“Very, very high. I can see myself playing there,” Harvey said of UF’s standing in his recruitment. “It’s just the players; they keep it real. The coaches are also honest and they aren’t afraid to play freshmen.”

Once it’s time for Harvey to pull himself off the market, what is going to separate one school from the pack?

“Just the coaching staff, keeping in contact with me, and then just being honest with me and not switching up,” Harvey said.

Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Michigan, Texas and Oklahoma are some offers on the table as well.
