Four-star CB Trystan Haynes analyzes first Notre Dame visit
One of Notre Dame’s top overall targets left on the 2025 board is Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert cornerback Trystan Haynes, and the four-star prospect was in South Bend Saturday for his first look at campus.
And based on what Haynes told Blue & Gold, the trip was a big success.
“It was great overall,” Haynes said. “Touring the campus, meeting all of the staff, talking with a couple commits and players — it was a great time for sure.”
Haynes hadn’t met the Irish staff before the weekend. The Fighting Irish offered him a scholarship Feb. 5, and there’s been no period on the recruiting calendar where coaches have been able to hit the road since then. So, the staff hasn’t been by his school to meet him.
The two parties have been in a lot of contact the past couple months, leading up to what was an important Saturday visit.
“It was good to get to piece the name and voice to the actual person in real life, and they were all I expected them to be,” added Haynes. “It was great meeting with Coach [Mike] Mickens and talking football and his journey as well.
The Irish practiced inside Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, and it was the defense that shined, especially in the secondary. Mickens’ group recorded three interceptions.
“I enjoyed the scrimmage,” said Haynes. “The defense was really flying around, forcing turnovers and hitting people. It was fun to watch.
“I enjoyed Notre Dame for sure.”
Haynes previously informed Blue & Gold that he has official visits scheduled with Miami May 31, Texas A&M June 7, Notre Dame June 14 and Oklahoma June 21.
“Next [in my recruitment] is official visits,” Haynes said. ‘I don’t have a set commitment date, but it will likely be some time after my last official visit.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting services — Haynes is the No. 150 overall player and No. 18 cornerback in the land.
On3’s own rankings list him as the No. 191 prospect and No. 20 cornerback nationally.
Oklahoma is considered the leader for Haynes according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 67.1 percent. Notre Dame is running second at 27.4 percent.
“It’s the school itself,” Haynes’ father, Shaun, told On3 prior to the ND visit about what interests them in the Fighting Irish. “The academics, the football history, Notre Dame comes with a level of oh man it’s Notre Dame. Past that it’s a good football program. Coach Freeman, good guy. Then we have some family down there.
“I would say right now for Trystan he’s keeping everything open, but it’s a school he’s really considering going to and not throwing a name on the list for the accolades.”
