Four-star 2024 DL Dominick McKinley receiving heavy recruiting effort from Miami coaching staff: ‘I talk to them every day’

Four-star 2024 DL Dominick McKinley receiving heavy recruiting effort from Miami coaching staff: ‘I talk to them every day’

Lafayette (La.) Acadiana 2024 four-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley has taken a junior day visit to Alabama and received an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine prediction for LSU, but Miami is still pushing heavily for the Louisiana native.

McKinley, the No. 14 overall 2024 prospect in the On300, No. 3 defensive lineman and top recruit in Louisiana, is continuing to hear from Miami’s coaching staff as the Hurricanes continue to search for their first position commit in this year’s recruiting cycle. The RPM overwhelmingly favors him to land at LSU and lists Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma as having slight chances, but Miami’s effort isn’t slowing down.

“I talk to them every day,” McKinley said. “(I like) how they are and how they work with each other.”

The 6-foot-5, 280-pound interior lineman said he has talked to just about every member of Miami’s coaching staff and is “most likely” planning on taking his first unofficial trip to Coral Gables this spring or summer, although he is yet to set a date. McKinley previously told CaneSport Miami’s coaching staff was repeatedly telling him they want him in Coral Gables and are fans of his playing style.

McKinley was an unranked prospect before the reveal of the latest On300 and On3 Industry Rankings several weeks ago, but his stock has continued to rise as programs have continued to take note of his ability as an interior wrecker. He was moved around as a three, five and sometimes seven technique on Acadiana’s defensive line last season and quickly racked up more than 20 total offers, including from programs like Georgia and Ohio State.

His professional comparison is former Pittsburgh Steeler and Notre Dame star defensive tackle Stephon Tuitt, who was a five-star prospect out of high school. McKinley is less than a point shy of being listed as a five-star recruit in the On300.

CaneSport’s Take

LSU, Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma have all received visits from McKinley and caught his attention along with Texas Tech, so Miami has its work cut out for it on the recruiting trail. McKinley told On3’s Sam Spiegelman that Brian Kelly and LSU are making a steady push for him and to bring him and his family to campus, and he’s been impressed by Alabama as well.

This means the clock is ticking for Miami to get McKinley to campus if the Hurricanes want to stay competitive in this race.

Miami is already set to host a significant recruiting event this weekend that will be headlined by 2024 players like four-star quarterback Air Noland, four-star tight end Kylan Fox and four-star interior lineman Eddy Pierre-Louis. Impressing fellow 2024 prospects could encourage McKinley to check out Coral Gables sooner rather than later.
