Four in-state recruits Michigan State could offer in the 2025 class

Michigan State has already extended seven in-state offers in the Class of 2025, with the possibility for the number to continue to grow in the next year.
The Spartans have already offered five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, rated the No. 1 recruit in his class, according to the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. Michigan State also offered Top 100 athlete Alex Graham who will be transferring from Detroit Cass Tech to Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy this summer.
Other offers include a pair of offensive lineman in Bobby Kanka, of Howell (Mich.) and four-star Avery Gach, of Franklin (Mich).
The Spartans have extended offers to hard hitting safety Desmond Straughton, of Roseville (Mich.) and defensive back Cashus Shivers, of Detroit.
Both defensive backs will make their way to East Lansing for Spartan Dawg Con at the end of July. The last in-state offer, so far, comes to speedy four-star wide receiver Kamren Flowers, of West Bloomfield. SpartanMag.com will look at five more prospects who could earn themselves a Spartan offer.
1.) Xavier Newsom, TE/DE, Detroit King
At 6-foot-5, 220-pounds, Newsom is being recruited as both a defensive lineman and tight end. With his long length, Newsom holds strong athletic qualities making him a strong candidate for a Michigan State offer on either side of the ball.
The main goal for Newsom will be to continue to put on weight heading into his junior season, giving Spartan coaches flexibility on the recruiting board.
Newsom is ranked a four-star, the No. 265 overall recruit, according to the 2025 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 15 tight end and the No. 4 recruit in Michigan. His other offers include Michigan, Penn State, Minnesota, West Virginia, and more.
2.) Elijah Dotson, WR/DB, University of Detroit Jesuit
The majority of Dotson’s sophomore highlights are at the wide receiver position. The Detroit, Mich. product continues to expand his recruitment on both sides of the ball. At 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, Dotson holds the frame and ball skills to play either wide receiver or defensive back at the next level.
He visited Michigan State in January for a junior day event. Dotson will visit Michigan and Louisville at the end of July.
Dotson is ranked a borderline four-star, as the No. 398 overall recruit in his class. He is also ranked the No. 58 wide receiver, and the No. 7 recruit in Michigan by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.
The three-star holds offers from Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Indiana, and more.
3.) Andre Thomas Jr., LB, Belleville (Mich.) High School
Michigan State will welcome three-star linebacker Andre Thomas Jr. at the end of the month for Spartan Dawg Con on July 28. Thomas is ranked the No. 451 overall recruit in his class by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also ranked the No. 42 linebacker, and the No. 10 recruit in Michigan.
His offers include Pittsburgh, Maryland, Central Michigan, and Toledo.
It will be the second trip to East Lansing for Thomas. The first came during the 2022 season for the game against Western Michigan. Michigan State will be his only visit at the end of the month as Thomas prepares for his junior season.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker shows good speed and athletic ability during his sophomore season. He will be looking to build upon that as Belleville High School goes for its third straight MHSAA Division I state title.
4.) Antwon Thomas, ATH, Belleville (Mich.) High School
Another Belleville, Mich. prospect (unrelated to Andre), Thomas could find himself earning a Michigan State offer. He is also preparing for his junior season with the Tigers.
At 5-foot-11, 170-pounds, Thomas is listed as a wide receiver. Known for his speed, he also played cornerback for Belleville. Thomas showcases his strong ball skills and length on both sides of the ball. He camped with Michigan State in June, and will also camp with Minnesota at the end of July.
He is ranked a three-star, the No. 436 overall recruit, the No. 27 athlete, and the No. 9 recruit in the state by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.
