Four Big Things to Watch at Florida State’s Seminole Showcase

Four Big Things to Watch at Florida State’s Seminole Showcase

The NCAA recruiting “dead period” is over, and we’re back. Florida State will be hosting another elite camp for recruits today at Doak Campbell Stadium.

This time, the majority of the prospects in attendance will be rising juniors that the coaching staff would like to see work out against other top standouts.

However, there will still be some big-time 2024 prospects in attendance as well. Here are some headlines to watch for:.

Could Jeremiah Smith be on Flip Watch?

Five-star prospect and Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith arrived on the Florida State campus Friday. This is his second visit to Tallahassee this summer. He has only taken one visit to Ohio State in that same time period.

Smith has remained strong to the Buckeyes, but visiting a different school multiple times in a two-month span will always raise eyebrows.

During his last visit in June, the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver told us he was there to keep building a connection with the Seminoles’ staff because you never know what might happen. It will be interesting to see what he says about his commitment to the Buckeyes after this weekend.

Smith will also visit UF before the start of fall camp.

How coveted is Jamari Howard by FSU?

Four-star defensive back Jamari Howard last visited Florida State in the spring. And even though he was a Michigan State commit at the time, he showed up in a full FSU sweat suit.

Back in May, Howard decommitted from the Spartans. However, Florida State didn’t seem to jump in and push for a commitment, and it looked as if the Seminoles might be cooling on the four-star.

Florida State landed five-star DB Charles Lester Friday night, and the Seminoles are in the running for five-star safety KJ Bolden. If they were to land both, it makes me wonder if Howard has been more of a Plan B option.

But we should get a feel this weekend about how much the staff values Howard and if he is close to a decision.

How strong is Chris Ewald’s commitment to Michigan?

Just like his teammate Jeremiah Smith, this will be 2025 four-star and Michigan commit Chris Ewald’s second time on campus this summer. Unlike Smith, his teammate has yet to visit the school he made a verbal pledge to back in December.

Previously, Ewald has said his commitment to the Wolverines is strong, but he also told us he wouldn’t be back until the Miami game, but here we are.

The young four-star has a very strong connection with Florida State defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain, and it will be interesting to see what their interactions look like this weekend.

The 2026 QB Battle

Florida State already quarterback commits for the 2024 and 2025 classes in Luke Kromenhoek and Tramell Jones, both of whom are expected to be at Doak Campbell today. But there also will be multiple 2026 QB targets in attendance.

Romin Seymour, son of former FSU defensive lineman Roland Seymour, will be back for another visit. And Jonah Winston, younger brother of 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, is expected as well. As is Brodie Mcworther of Georgia.

Winston and Mcworther both visited in the spring but have yet to throw in front of quarterbacks coach Tony Tokarz and the rest of the Florida State staff.

As for Seymour, he stole the show at FSU’s QB camp in June and even earned an invite to the first Elite Camp after his performance.

I see these three signal-callers as FSU’s top targets at the position for 2026, and whoever performs the best today could push themselves to the top of the Seminoles’ board.

The Showcase won’t take place until late in the afternoon, but stay connected to the Premium Recruiting Board all day for updates.
