Former South Carolina women’s basketball star commits to SEC rival out of transfer portal

Former South Carolina women’s basketball star commits to SEC rival out of transfer portal

On Friday, former South Carolina women’s basketball star MiLaysia Fulwiley found a new home via the transfer portal. The Gamecocks will see their former All-SEC guard next year as she will suit up for the LSU Tigers during the 2025-2026 campaign.

Fulwiley is joining one of the SEC’s top challengers to South Carolina’s in-conference dynasty. LSU hasn’t beaten the Gamecocks in their last 17 opportunities, but the Tigers are a good team that won a title under head coach Kim Mulkey just a couple of years ago. Since Mulkey arrived in Baton Rouge, LSU has finished in the top three in the conference each year. They’ve also been a hot transfer portal destination, and Fulwiley’s decision only adds to that.

The Columbia native averaged 11.7 points per game as a sophomore en route to the SEC’s Sixth Woman of the Year award. She also chipped in with 2.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds. That production doesn’t jump off the page until one realizes Fulwiley played just 18.9 minutes per game.

The rising junior will have two years left to play in college.

Fulwiley was one of two Gamecocks to enter the transfer portal this offseason, joining veteran post player Sakima Walker. Walker has not yet announced a transfer destination.

South Carolina has brought in two transfers, All-American guard Ta’Niya Latson from Florida State and big-time post player Madina Okot from Mississippi State. Latson led the nation in scoring this season and will spend her senior year in garnet and black. Okot nearly averaged a double-double and could have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
