Former Purdue QB Ryan Browne visiting
A familiar name will be back on campus today: Ryan Browne.
The former Purdue quarterback announced his transfer to North Carolina on Dec. 19 after the 2024 season to play for new Tar Heels coach Bill Belichick. But with spring ball finished, Browne posted on social media on Wednesday he was entering the transfer portal amid reports UNC was wooing South Alabama quarterback Gio Lopez from the portal.
Now, Browne could end up back in West Lafayette. His dual-threat ability would seem to fit the new offense of Barry Odom.
If he returned, Browne would enter a Purdue QB competition that has no clarity after Malachi Singleton, EJ Colson, Evans Chuba and Bennett Meredith all battled in the spring.
Browne is set to land today in Indianapolis around 3 p.m. and make his way up to West Lafayette to visit with Odom and the new Purdue staff.
The 6-4, 210-pound Browne showed promise last season at Purdue. He played in eight games as a redshirt freshman, making starts in October at Illinois and vs. Oregon–when Hudson Card was injured. Browne nearly delivered a win at Illinois, as the Boilermakers fell, 50-49, in OT. He threw for 297 yards (18-of-26 passing, 69 percent) and 3 TDs and ran for 118 yards on 17 carries (6.9 ypc) vs. the Illini.
Browne hit 43-of-76 passes on the season (56.6 percentage) for 532 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for 155 yards last season (3.1 yards per carry) during a 1-11 campaign that saw Purdue move on from Ryan Walters.
