Former NFL, Oregon tight end Russ Francis killed in plane crash
Former NFL and Oregon tight end Russ Francis was killed in a plane crash at Lake Placid Airport on Sunday. The New York Post reported the news. He was 70.
Per the report, Francis “was in a plane with Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association’s senior vice president Richard McSpadden when it experienced problems shortly after takeoff around 4 p.m.” Francis and McSpadden, who also died in the accident, attempted to return to the airport but were unable to reach the runway.
Francis played in the NFL for 14 seasons, suiting up for twp teams. He played for the New England Patriots (1975-80, 1987-89) and the San Francisco 49ers (1982-87). Francis was a three-time Pro Bowler and won a Super Bowl in his career.
