Former NFL HC Jack Del Rio to coach Paris Musketeers in European League
The Paris Musketeers of the European League of Football announced Friday they have hired former NFL coach Jack Del Rio as their head coach.
Del Rio, 61, heads abroad for his next venture after 35 years of playing and coaching experience in the NFL.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome Coach Del Rio to Paris,” Musketeers CEO John McKeon said in a statement. “His commitment to excellence and his passion for teaching the game will build upon the tone and culture that was set by our first coach, Marc Mattioli. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to the Musketeers family and continue building our winning tradition.”
Del Rio spent the 2024 season serving as senior advisor to head coach Luke Fickell at Wisconsin, his first job in college football. He resigned from the job on Nov. 11 after he was arrested and cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated following a crash in Madison, Wisconsin.
Jack Del Rio brings extensive experience to Paris Musketeers
Prior to his brief stay with the Badgers, Del Rio notably served as head coach for two NFL franchises: The Jacksonville Jaguars (2003-11) and Las Vegas Raiders (2015-17). Del Rio went 68-71 with the Jaguars, leading the team to two playoff appearances. Fired after a 3-8 start to the 2011 season, Del Rio had a three-year stint as defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos before landing another head coaching job with the Raiders.
Del Rio guided the Raiders to a 12-4 record in 2016, the franchise’s first postseason berth since 2002. The Raiders regressed the following year, going 6-10 and Del Rio was fired and replaced by Jon Gruden. Del Rio had signed a four-year contract extension before the season. His last NFL job came with the Washington Commanders as defensive coordinator under head coach Ron Rivera (2020-23). Rivera fired Del Rio in November 2023.
Del Rio will now lead the Musketeers in the ELF, which played its first season in 2021. The league is made up of 16 teams across 10 countries. The Musketeers are the only team in France. Del Rio’s ELF debut is scheduled for Friday, May 16, against the Rhein Fire.
“I’m looking forward to working with this group of men,” Del Rio said. “We will teach, develop and compete.”
