Former Hawkeye Brittney Brown wins bronze medal

For the first time in program history, a women in the Iowa track and field program won an individual Olympic medal. Former Iowa track standout Brittany Brown took the bronze medal in the women’s 200 meter final on Tuesday at the 2024 Paris Olympic games.

Brown ran a time of 22.20 to edge out other competitors for a third place finish. She finished strong, just ahead of Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita to grab the bronze medal.

Gabbie Thomas from the United States took the gold with a time of 21.83 seconds. Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia, who won the women’s 100 meters race, took the silver with a time of 22.08.

Director of Track and Field at Iowa, Joey Woody, offered his congratulations.

“Brittany ran a terrific race to win the Olympic bronze medal. We are all proud of her amazing accomplishment tonight. She had a great career as a Hawkeye and it’s fun to watch her continue that success on the Olympic stage.”

Woody said he hopes that sometime in the fall that Brown can return to Iowa City with bronze medal in hand and be celebrated on a football Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
