Florida TE Timothy Lawson set for Purdue official visit in June

If Class of 2024 tight end recruit Timothy Lawson has any questions about Purdue, he doesn’t have to look far for answers.

Former Boilermaker center Viktor Beach is on the staff as offensive line coach of his high school: Bishop Verot in Fort Myers, Fla. Beach had his Purdue career cut short by a back injury after arriving in 2017.

“It’s nice to have Viktor around,” said Lawson. “We are really close.”

Lawson has over 20 offers and would like to pick a school before the start of his senior season. The 6-5, 220-pound Lawson has official visits set up for North Carolina, TCU and Duke in addition to Purdue, where he’ll be June 23-25.

“I like the offense Purdue is running and how they utilize the tight end, showing me the scheme,” said Lawson, who visited West Lafayette in April shortly after he received an offer. “The coaches also are likeable. It was easy to get to know them and to develop relationships.”

Lawson, who doubles as a promising left-handed pitcher, says one of the things that defines him is his speed.

“For a tight end, I’m pretty fast,” he said. “A lot of tight ends run in the 18-mph range. I’ve been clocked at 21 mph. I run a 4.65 40. For 6-5, 225-pound, I have good speed to beat linebackers and am too strong for corners. Easy to be get by DBs if they press me.”
