Florida State leads for 4-star LB Tavion Wallace, Georgia, Florida and Arkansas battling
Florida State has long been thought to be the leader for Jesup (Ga.) Wayne County four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace, but three other schools are right in the mix ahead of his official visits.
Wallace will take official visits to Arkansas (May 31), Georgia (June 7), Florida (June 14) and Florida State (June 21) over the next month. He will announce his commitment on July 15, and said that “family and consistency” will be the main factor in his decision.
The Seminoles currently have the slight edge, while Florida and Georgia have been “pushing” toward the end of his recruitment, Wallace told On3’s Chad Simmons at the On3 Elite Series — an educational seminar discussing the new era of NIL and navigating life after football.
“Really, they’re family-oriented,” Wallace said about FSU. “Because every time I go back, it feels like family and I love the consistency. That’s one of the biggest things in my recruitment, the family feeling. That’s what I’m going to decide on when I decide which school I’m going to.”
Gators trying to build on childhood fanhood
Growing up a Florida fan, getting to see the facilities in Gainesville and just be around the Gators program was something Wallace had always wanted to experience. Now, he’s getting that opportunity.
“Really getting the experience. Growing up a Florida fan, I always wanted to go to the facility and chill and everything,” Wallace said of what he likes most about UF. “To get that experience has really been a blessing.”
Wallace also said that one of the biggest positives with the staff at Florida — like with Florida State — is the emphasis they’ve put on building a relationship with his family.
“They talk to my family more than they talk to me a lot, and that just shows a lot,” Wallace said. “Florida State and Florida, they talk to my family more than they talk to me and I love that.”
Wallace’s relationship with UGA’s Glenn Schumann
Georgia is right there in this recruitment for the in-state product. Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Glenn Schumann has been at the front of Wallace’s recruitment for the ‘Dawgs.
“How they develop players,” Wallace said when asked about what intrigues him about Georgia. “Me and coach Schumann have a bond together on and off the field — I can call him any day, any time. Then, how they develop players. They compare me to Roquan (Smith), so that’s a big comparison.”
Connection with Travis Williams keeps Arkansas in this
Over at Arkansas, Wallace is close with Razorbacks linebackers coach Travis Williams. The relationship there began through Wallace’s older brother, Trevin Wallace, who played at Kentucky before being selected by Carolina in this year’s NFL draft.
“He’s like a brother to me,” Wallace said of Williams. “He ain’t even like a coach, he’s like a brother to me.”
This official visit will be Wallace’s first time at Arkansas.
“I’ve been to every school but Arkansas, so this is going to be my first time getting to see Arkansas,” he said. “But all the other schools, just letting me see more how things are.”
