Florida State baseball streak ends in embarrassing fashion
The Florida State Seminoles have been one of the most historically dominant programs in all of college baseball. Since 1990, the Seminoles have had more 50-win seasons, hosted more NCAA Tournaments, and finished in the Top 10 more than any other team in the nation. Since 2000, FSU has been devastatingly dominant, racking up more victories and a higher win percentage in the regular season than any other school.
They’ve also won three national titles during their storied program’s history. The Seminoles have made the postseason 44 years in a row. Unfortunately, on Saturday, that impressive streak officially came to an end. Florida State’s loss on Saturday to Wake Forest, combined with Pitt’s win mathematically eliminated the Seminoles from ACC Tournament contention. It’s officially the first time in 45 years that Florida State will not be in the NCAA Tournament.

It’s going to be tough to replicate Florida State’s streak in college baseball postseason appearances, no question about it. Especially in the NIL and transfer portal era of college athletics. The Seminoles’ baseball program has produced 100 All-Americans over the years, including such legendary players such as J.D. Drew. Drew won every award imaginable in 1997, finishing as one of the most decorated players in FSU baseball history. He won the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, among many other players.
Florida State has struggled mightily in 2023
Florida State currently sits at 19-30 overall on the 2023 campaign. They also sit at 15-13 overall in the ACC. They did post two wins over a Top 10 opponent in February. The ‘Noles defeated the No. 8 TCU Horned Frogs 10-1 and 10-8 on February 24 and February 25.
The Seminoles lost two of their first two games of their series this weekend with the No. 1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. They lost Friday’s game 10-0 in 8 innings. On Saturday, the Demon Deacons prevailed 7-3. James Tibbs blasted a solo shot in the 8th inning to tie the game at 3-3, but Wake Forest managed to pull away in the ninth inning after they tacked on four runs.
Florida State and Wake Forest will finish their series on Sunday at 1:00 PM EST. On Tuesday, the ‘Noles will face Kennesaw State, before finishing off their season with a three-game series with the Louisville Cardinals. That series with Louisville is slated to begin on Thursday, May 18th and finish on Saturday, May 20th.
