Florida Gators to host a couple of On300 prospects on Saturday
Before official visits go on throughout the summer, the Florida Gators are hosting multiple On300 prospects to begin May. On Friday, the Gators received good news from four-star wide receiver Izaiah Williams, who committed to Florida over LSU, Florida State and others.
With the addition of Williams, the Gators’ first receiver pledge, Florida remains at No. 4 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
As the weekend kicks off, Florida looks to keep up their momentum on the recruiting trail. With that being said, let us check out who will be in Gainesville on Saturday.
IMG Academy five-star defensive lineman David Stone
An IMG talent, five-star defensive lineman David Stone will show face at UF on Saturday. Stone is a highly-coveted prospect by a number of schools, notably Oklahoma and Michigan State. The five-star was supposed to get to Gainesville in the spring, but could not make it and will now trip up from Bradenton on Saturday.
The Gators are fighting to land an official visit from Stone, who is eyeing OU, Michigan State and Ohio State as potential official visits, according to On3’s Chad Simmons.
“Last time I was there, it was a busy day, so I didn’t really get a feel for the environment there,” Stone told Simmons about UF. “But I did enjoy it regardless. So this time, it’s just me getting another look at everything, getting to hang out with the players and talk to coach.”
Out-of-state four-star tight end Walter Matthews
Another priority target, four-star tight end Walter Matthews is also in play for the Florida Gators. While the Gators had plenty of momentum in the spring, that has tailed off as Matthews ventured to other schools and saw other programs. The Gators are still in the thick of things, though, but are not trending as much as they previously were.
This weekend could prove to be a big step in UF’s pursuit of Matthews in hopes to get Florida back in the driver’s seat. Over the weekend, Matthews is hoping to lock in an official visit with the Gators.
Florida-based three-star offensive tackle Tye Hylton
A three-star in-state tackle, Hylton remains interested in the Florida Gators as he hails from Oviedo, Florida. Hylton remains a viable target for the Gators and had an impressive review from the Orange and Blue game in April.
“Man, it was great. Great vibes, great energy, a lot of big-time athletes while watching good football, you can’t go wrong that,” Hylton told GO. “The first time I went, I had went with my coaches, so they just talked to me. This time, I brought my parents with me and they talked to my parents a lot. They were good conversations. It doesn’t feel like recruiting with them; it just feels genuine.
As time goes by, the Gators and Seminoles look to be in the best position to land a commitment from the 6-foot-4, 272-pound offensive lineman.
