Florida Gators drop by for 4-star OT Michael Uini; official visit is scheduled

Florida Gators drop by for 4-star OT Michael Uini; official visit is scheduled

With outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson making his rounds in the Lone Star State, the Gators are in pursuit of some of the nation’s best and have five-star DJ Lagway in the fold as the class headliner.

Another 2024 prospect in the talent-rich state who is a priority at Florida is offensive tackle Michael Uini.

Hailing from Copperas Cove High, Uini is one of the prospects Peterson dropped by for on Tuesday. The 6-foot-7, 275-pound junior checks in as the No. 9-ranked offensive tackle and 129th-ranked prospect overall. That is according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Uini was offered by the Gators last August and is communicating with the SEC program several times a week. Offensive line coaches Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton are among those making a strong impression and responsible for UF landing in his top 10 earlier this year.

Alabama, USC, Georgia, Oregon, Michigan, Nebraska, Baylor, TCU and Texas made the cut as well.

“Obviously, Florida has got a new staff and I can see they are trying to get all these recruits in. I really love that. They’re trying to rebuild something down at Florida,” Uini previously told GO.

“One of the Florida’s recruiters, (Joe Hamilton), has actually been keeping an eye on me since he was at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I remember him telling me they’re trying to rebuild the program and that he has been watching me for a minute.”

Multiple official visits are scheduled

The Gators recently secured an official visit date as well. That multi-day experience at the Swamp is scheduled for June 9-11, while Clemson has itinerary booked for June 2-4.

The Tigers offered Uini a scholarship in March, explaining why they were not included in his top 10.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, the in-state Longhorns are trending with odds of 34.3 percent. Clemson’s percentage of 24 is good enough for second on that list.

June’s official visit will mark Uini’s first-ever trip to Florida; however, the Gators could already be in the back end of his top five. A strong official visit could catapult them near the very top.

On3 Scouting Report on Michael Uini

“Big-bodied athlete who has all the makings of a future NFL draft pick at the offensive tackle position. Prototype frame and build who has a college-ready body type heading into his junior season.

“Raw from a technical standpoint but has the rare combination of size and athleticism that college coaches covet. Basketball player as well who can get up and two-hand slam flat-footed.

“High upside prospect with all the physical and athletic tools to be successful at the next level.”
