Florida Gators climb seven spots in rankings following TE Amir Jackson’s commitment

Florida Gators climb seven spots in rankings following TE Amir Jackson’s commitment

Not only did the Gators land a major offensive target on Saturday afternoon, but the SEC program also catapulted up the 2024 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.

Amir Jackson, a top-10 tight end from Portal (Ga.) High, is currently at Florida for an official visit and opted to pull himself off the market before even wrapping up the trip. He is also a standout basketball player who excels in space and is more of a field stretcher.

With today’s pledge, the Gators are now equipped with the No. 6-ranked recruiting class. They previously checked in at No. 13, so Jackson’s decision pushed them past seven programs.

Regardless of the ranking though, you don’t often see a school making such a significant move after landing one commitment. Only Georgia and Alabama, respectively, are ahead of Florida in the SEC rankings.

In addition to the Gators, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound Jackson possesses offers from Georgia, Alabama, Miami, Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee and South Carolina among others.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, safety Xavier Filsaime is the Gators’ highest-ranked commit at No. 28 overall. Quarterback DJ Lagway, however, is just one spot behind Filsaime at No. 29.

Additional blue-chip prospects in UF’s class include Myles Graham, Adarius Hayes, Amir Jackson, Izaiah Williams and Kahnen Daniels.

Background on the On3 Team Rankings, powered by the On3 Industry

The On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking is our best work yet. It is the most advanced, complete and unbiased ranking measurement in the industry, yet its simplicity makes it easy for fans to follow and understand.

+ The On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking utilizes all four major recruiting media companies: On3, 247Sports, Rivals.com and ESPN.

+ The On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking solves the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle. It compiles the highest-rated commits for each team up to a total based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power 5 schools.

With this model, there are no bonus points for having more commitments than other teams, and only small deductions occur when a team has fewer commitments than the rolling average. Unlike distribution (bell) curves, this model doesn’t disproportionately weight a team’s top three or four highest-rated commits and is a more accurate representation of an entire class.
