BRADENTON, FL. — Roughly a week ago, IMG Academy wide receiver Donovan Olugbode took another step toward the finish line, as he released his top-five schools.
Among those that made the cut for the 4-star prospect is Florida, which offered nearly 15 months ago.
The Gators have taken advantage of the two-hour distance between Bradenton and Gainesville, having hosted Olugbode three times, and are now scheduled to receive an official visit on June 14-16.
USC, Missouri, Washington and Oregon are additional finalists for the Chicago native.
“Definitely the role in me playing early there and me fitting into their system,” Olugbode told Gators Online when asked about his interest in UF.
“Coach (Billy) Napier and (wide receivers) coach Billy G(onzales), they do a good job with the offense and receivers in general. Coach Nap being a receivers guy and offensive coach, it’s nothing but good.”
The message from the aforementioned Gonzales?
“He definitely wants me and that I can make an impact the first year and soon as I get there,” Olugbode said. “Him and (David) Doeker, the assistant receivers coach, they are good guys and I really mess with them. They coach the position good.”
Another major highlight regarding the Gators is the game-day atmosphere throughout Gainesville.
“That Tennessee game, I think that was the loudest game I’ve ever been to,” Olugbode said. “The staff, it feels like family.”
Three schools are pushing hardest for Olugbode
Obviously, recruiting can change overnight. And in Olugbode’s case, Alabama and Ohio State didn’t make his top five but are under consideration for an official visit on June 7-9.
As for the schools pushing the hardest for his commitment, there is some more clarity.
“Probably Florida, Mizzou or Washington,” Olugbode replied.
While a date is not scheduled, the On300 prospect expects to pull himself off the market this summer.
“I ain’t going to lie; they’re all probably equal now,” Olugbode said. “I’ll probably only put Washington at the top because that’s the only OV I’ve been on. I can’t judge it off that.”
Florida, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, is trending early on with odds of 39.8 percent.
