Five things: How Will McNair can help Kansas State

Five things: How Will McNair can help Kansas State

1.) For those that may have missed it, Kansas State once again has a full roster of 13 scholarship players after adding big man transfer Will McNair from Mississippi State. He was actually briefly at Providence, too, even making the foreign trip for the Friars. However, he backed out of that choice and swiftly committed to K-State. Patience is required in the transfer portal era. It is the second year in a row where the Wildcats assembled a full roster after school starts. Heck, it wasn’t until October a year ago when Desi Sills made it to campus.

2.) McNair began his career at New Mexico State and followed his head coach Chris Jans to Mississippi State before entering the portal and picking Providence. When entering the transfer portal for the second time in the same recruiting cycle, his finalists were both Kansas State and BYU. The Wildcats were a thorn for Mark Pope and the Cougars twice. Addition No. 12 was originally a BYU commit in Samford guard transfer Ques Glover.

3.) The signing of McNair also gives K-State a full transfer class of four players that also consists of Glover, Arthur Kaluma and Tylor Perry. It may not be a No. 1 group but many believe it is in the ballpark of a top 5 or top 10 collection.

4.) Because of prior stops and years played, McNair does have just one year of eligibility remaining. Like Abayomi Iyiola a season ago, he’s a one-year rental near the rim for Kansas State.

5.) He will be the bruiser and extremely physical big that the Wildcats didn’t have last year. Though they didn’t need that style of player a ton, and it isn’t necessarily aligned with their coaching philosophy, it would have been nice in certain moments. A few of those were when playing against teams like TCU and FAU. McNair isn’t afraid to bang in the paint, can play with his back to the basket on the offensive end and has quality rebounding numbers from an efficiency standpoint.
