Five-stars, elite prospects and their families gush about their weekend official visits to Ohio State

Five-stars, elite prospects and their families gush about their weekend official visits to Ohio State

It was a big recruiting weekend on Ohio State’s campus as head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes aim to add to a recruiting class On3 ranks No. 1 heading into the heart of summer.

When all said and done, they’ll certainly add a few of these extremely talented players.

On3 has the latest coming out of Columbus.

Top-ranked WR Dakorien Moore takes his third visit to OSU of the year

Duncanville (Texas) High five-star plus Dakorien Moore and his family were back in Columbus this weekend. It was Moore’s third time there and second for his mother Marjahn. Marjahn’s aunt was also on campus.

“The visit did not disappoint,” Marjahn said. “My family and I were impressed.”

The elder Moore elaborated as Ohio State battles, LSU, Texas and Oregon.

“The academics, how competitive the football team is in the classroom not just on the field. That was very impressive. How serious they are about these student’s academics. How the major (sports industry) we saw was extremely tailored to fit Dakorien so well. We just started OVs, we haven’t dove into majors and how everything works. This is the first one. They set the bar really, really high.

“The network and brotherhood that was very impressive. How everyone sticks together. The network spans across the country. It doesn’t matter where you are. The life after football aspect is tremendous. How they help the boys prepare for their future while they’re playing.”

Ohio State continued to hammer home some other things the Moore family loves about the opportunity.

“They spoke in-depth about mental health. That’s important especially with my baby being so far from home. The flight is short but it’s still far from home. The mental health and being able to recognize in their athletes. The health industry is growing tremendously there and they’re on top of recognizing different things. They spoke on athletes and gave two examples of two athletes that had injuries that weren’t able to play football again. They’re still part of the brotherhood, still locked in the same network and same benefits and still on track to have successful futures. That was very important to us.”

One of the jewels of Ohio State’s class in five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez flew in to surprise Moore and help recruit him to Ohio State.

“It was a great visit all in all,” Marjahn said. “How they bonded with other kids. Everything was great.

“The kids bonded with jeopardy and history of Ohio State. We had so much fun. My aunt who is like a mother to me, she was there. We’re from Texas and I’m from Austin. She bleeds burnt orange, that’s where the loyalty is. But coming there she was really impressed. He was like if he makes a decision to come here I fully support it. They’re on top of it.”

Ohio State is on top of a lot of these recruitments.

Buckeyes give Sunshine State playmaker a lot to thing about

In the spring Ohio State looked like the one to beat for Orlando (Fla.) Jones On300 receiver Vernell Brown III. Heading into the summer that momentum started to turn towards Florida and Florida State.

Perhaps following this weekend’s official it’s back with the Buckeyes.

“My visit was amazing!” Brown stated. “Obviously I’ve been to Columbus quite a bit but my family got a chance to see it for themselves which was big. They do a good job all around.”

Brown brought his dad and brother who have also seen it, but also his mother and sisters who hadn’t. Everyone had a great experience.

“It is one of the few schools that has everything I’m looking for in all aspects,” Brown said.

The On3 Industry ranks Brown as the nation’s No. 6 receiver and No. 35 prospect overall.

Buckeyes push back to the top for coveted in-state edge rusher

Alabama had been building a lot of momentum with Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods On300 edge rusher Justin Hill, but now the pulse is back with Ohio State.

“Probably my best visit yet,” Hill said Sunday eventing. Obviously it being the official visit one.

“I feel like all my boxes got filled and I don’t have any question marks with Ohio State. I feel like they rolled the carpet out and gave me everything they have to offer.”

Oregon and USC round out the top four for Hill who ranks as the On3 Industry’s No. 48 overall prosect in America.

“Obviously in my recruitment people go he’s an Ohio kid, an Ohio lock. I like to think past that and I’m not really feeding into that bu tthere are so many benefits of being an Ohio kid, going to Ohio State and being alumni. The life after football and great resources. For example, getting an engineering degree and you want to minor in real-estate, Columbus is a great city to go after that.”

Hill felt at home around the program.

“Last not but not least the football aspect,” he stated. “I’m one of the more versatile kids being able to rush the ball and play the linebacker position and pass rush. I’m getting a lot of coaches there 24-7 I can learn from including one of the best defensive line coaches Larry Johnson. Going from him to Coach (James) Laurinaitis who’s done it for so long at the highest level and been a captain and actually played at Ohio State and really dominated. Those people can put me in position to make plays. Coach (Jim) Knowles with the JACK position giving me freelance to ball out. Even with Coach (Tim) Walton. That’s my dawg. I’m not a DB but he’s always coaching me up. We have that type of relationship.”

Hill has his upcoming officials to his other finalists. Things can change, but it’s now Ohio State setting the pace again. My On3 RPM reflects that.

Another On3 RPM in favor of Ohio State

Running back is a massive need for the Buckeyes this cycle as they could lose both mega-talents at the top of the depth chart in TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins.

Day, Carlos Locklyn and the staff aim to sign three.

Cleveland (Ohio) Villa Angela – St. Joseph High’s On300 prospect Bo Jackson is one of them, and this is shaping up nicely for the On3 Industry’s No. 4 ranked athlete.

“Overall Great weekend for me and my family,” Jackson said. “Spending time with coaches Day, (Chip) Kelly and Locklyn were great, but the real highlight with both trips so far was hanging with current players around campus.

“Sam hosted me and he loved being there. Had a fantastic time with JT hosting a big event at his house.”

While Ohio State looks to be in good position, they’re in a battle to sign him.

“Georgia visit was amazing,” Jackson said of his May official to Athens. “Ohio State visit was amazing. I can’t wait to do Alabama visit. Just going in to all open with no expectations absorbing as much info as possible.”

Besides Jackson, Ohio State is well positioned with Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s running back Isaiah West and Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei’s Jordon Davison.

Weekend quick hitters

Keep an eye on Ohio State for On300 receiver Daylan McCutcheon. He was on campus and the word is the Buckeyes really impressed.

A source that spent time with the nation’s No. 2 linebacker Riley Pettijohn believes OSU is the biggest challenger to Texas as he wraps up his process. Texas A&M and USC round out the finalists.
