Five-star QB DJ Lagway locks in Florida official visit

Five-star QB DJ Lagway locks in Florida official visit

The face of Florida’s 2024 recruiting class already has his next visit back to the Swamp set.

Five-star Texas quarterback DJ Lagway has locked in his official visit back to — for June 2-4 weekend. The trip back to Gainesville follows multiple trips to campus to check out the team and help aid recruiting efforts this spring. Lagway and his family were also on campus for a string of visits in-season before the No. 3-rated quarterback in the On300 committed to Florida over the likes of Clemson and USC.

Lagway has since emerged as the leader of the Gators’ lead, which was on par with an early commitment last fall.

“I knew on my last visit up there,” Lagway told On3 when he committed to Florida. “I had a really great time with my whole family with me. We all enjoyed it and I love what Coach Napier is doing up there in Gainesville and I’m excited to continue to see what he does.

… Florida checks all the boxes, from the depth chart and the way that Anthony Richardson played this season. I love the offense that Coach Napier brings to the table and I feel like I fit in perfectly in there like Anthony Richardson did last year. We play similarly and I know I can grow and develop as more of a player and a person off the field at Florida.”

Lagway leading Florida’s recruiting

Lagway, the No. 20 player in the On300 for 2024, has been committed to Florida since December.

He has been on several occasions with some of the nation’s best recruits and top targets on the Florida board, including Five-star Plus+ WR Jeremiah Smith, WR Josisha Trader and Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons.

Part of Lagway’s motivation to join the Gators’ class early was to recruit. So far, the returns have been positive.

“It was huge,” Lagway said of his time with Smith. “I felt like he enjoyed it and I’m excited to see where we can get him.”

“I feel really great about it,” added Lagway. “Really, really, really great.”

Lagway shines at Elite 11 camp

Lagway participated in the Elite 11 regional in Austin earlier this spring. Here’s what On3’s Cody Bellaire said about the future Gators’ passer:

“Looked comfortable when throwing on the move (right or left) and didn’t lose hardly any velocity on the football. Deep ball throws were great; this is really where he and just a couple of others separated themselves. Wind picked up a bit during this portion of the workout and didn’t phase Lagway whatsoever. Didn’t overcompensate for the wind, stayed true to his motion and delivered catchable footballs, which is more than what most could say on the day.”
