Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons resets visit schedule
Duncanville (Texas) Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons originally planned to attend Colorado‘s spring game on April 22. He announced Wednesday night that the trip is no longer happening.
However, Simmons still has multiple visits in the coming weeks. The Lone Star State native will be at Texas A&M on April 1, USC on April 8, Florida on April 13 and Oregon on April 29. While Simmons had already revealed his trips to the Aggies and Gators, visits to the Ducks and Trojans are newly scheduled.
“Honestly, they’re real big because they’re not anywhere near my house,” Simmons previously told On3 about his spring visits. “Going on campus to those schools, I just want to see if I can stay there for the next three-to-four years, see if I’ll actually have fun and enjoy myself out there rather than not feel the school. I want to feel comfortable.
Simmons has visited Arizona State (March 18) and Texas (March 25) this month. He also saw Georgia (Jan. 14) and TCU (Jan. 29) in January.
“It was amazing,” Simmons said after seeing the Sun Devils. “I’m not even going to lie it was like a whole vibe down there. The only reason it surprised me is because everything the coaches told me before I got down there was true. They told me what I was going to see, and I saw it. They told me I was going to have a great and fun time down there, and I had a great and fun time down there.”
Meanwhile, Simmons is very interested in the Longhorns. A key reason is because of their impeding move to the SEC in 2024.
“Family and it’s home, honestly,” Simmons said of Texas’ message to him. “Playing for your in-state team, that’s basically what it’s all about. They’re basically trying to get all the DFW kids to Texas and that’s basically what they’re doing right now.”
Regarding official visits, Simmons wants to use some of them during the fall. He wants to experience what games are like and feel a true “homecoming” environment to see if he can see himself at the school.
Simmons seems in no rush to make a decision. Yet, the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking already knows what he wants in a school.
“Just whoever I feel comfortable with, whoever I feel like I can trust, whoever I feel like is going to have my best interest, who’s gonna take care of me and protect me for the next three-to-four years,” Simmons said. “I’m keeping a close eye on the coaching staff. Everybody tells you the same thing, so I want to see with my own eyes.”
