Five-star OL Jonathan Daniels eyes Florida State official visit after ‘great’ spring game

After a few visits this spring fell through because of travel issues, five-star offensive tackle Jonathan Daniels finally made his way over to Florida State for the Seminoles’ spring showcase on Saturday. And according to Daniels, the visit didn’t disappoint.

Along with getting to spend time with head coach Mike Norvell, offensive coordinator/line coach Alex Atkins and others, the Pensacola product said he also now has a firm idea of when he will take his official visit to Florida State.

“It was great to just come back and see Coach Atkins, Coach Norvell, and being back in the atmosphere at FSU,” Daniels said. “I talked to them (the FSU coaches) when I first arrived in the morning, then I had a meeting with Coach Norvell and Coach Atkins separate. We were talking about my official visit at FSU, and then with Coach Atkins about recruiting and how I’m doing in life.”

Daniels said that official visit to Florida State will be the last one he takes, and that wasn’t done by accident.

“We don’t know a date for sure,” he said. “Taking some in the summer and some in the fall. Most of them in November.

After getting a close look at the Seminoles in their spring game, the five-star prospect talked about what he liked the most about the FSU offensive line and program in general.

“The progress is getting bigger and bigger,” Daniels said. “Everyone is making more of an impact today. Coach Atkins could see the process of them going up or going down.”

Daniels said he spent most of his time around the Florida State coaching staff, but he said he does talk often with another Pensacola product, current Seminole lineman Darius Washington.

“I do talk with Darius a lot,” Daniels said. “He calls to check up on me to see if I’m straight and what FSU means for me. He’s like a big brother to help me get where I want to get to.”

So what did he think about the Seminoles’ offense on Saturday?

“It fits me perfectly,” he said. “A lot of what they do is what we have, so I’m really comfortable with what they are doing. So it’s a good fit.”

When asked about a leader in his recruitment, Daniels said he doesn’t have one yet. He did mention Florida State, LSU and Alabama as the main three teams, before adding in Miami and Maryland.

Daniels said he plans to make a decision in December.
