Five-star LB Sammy Brown talks time with Raiola, UGA commits
When new Georgia commit and No. 1 quarterback Dylan Raiola‘s name popped up on a text message to Sammy Brown recently, it was with an invitation.
“Dylan text me and asked if we had a place to throw, and I told him we could come throw over here (at Jefferson),” Brown told DawgsHQ’s Jake Rowe following the session.
For the Jefferson, Georgia-based star, it was an opportunity to evaluate what could, ultimately, be his future teammates.
“Why not come over here and throw with a bunch of Georgia commits and get around them and get a feel for them?” Brown said. “If I commit to Georgia, that’s who I’m going to be with. Getting a feel for their personalities and play styles was just really cool.”
And it was an eye-opening experience for the nation’s No. 1 linebacker in the Class of 2024.
“I think it definitely helps. That’s who I’m going to be around, and it gives me a feel of what Georgia will be like in the years I’ll be there,” Brown said. “It definitely helps in learning what the culture of Georgia will be like.”
Now, Brown is turning his attention toward the final steps toward a decision.
“I have all my officials set for June, and I’ll probably make a decision the first week of July or so, just to get it over with before my senior year,” Brown said. “I want to focus on that last year of football.”
He’s going into those trips with fresh eyes.
“I’m staying pretty neutral right now. I don’t really want to put one above the other, because they’re all really good places. They’d all be a really good fit for me,” Brown said. “Those five officials I have, though, are probably the five best in the country.”
Still, both the Bulldogs and Clemson, considered the two favorites for the time being, have proven themselves to be standouts for good reason.
“I think they both have really good cultures and that reflects on the field. They’ve both been very good over the past few years, and I think they’ll continue to be because of what they have going.”
And while Georgia may have proximity on its side, that’s not a major consideration for Brown.
“Not at all. With modern travel, it would not take any time at all to go to other spots like Oklahoma or Ohio State or anything like that with planes,” he said. “It’s not that big of a hassle. Going to Georgia versus anywhere else like Ohio State or Oklahoma doesn’t make that big of a difference.”
Sammy Brown ranks as the No. 16 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking.
