Five key official visits to watch this weekend

Five key official visits to watch this weekend

The temperatures are heating up, summer is right around the corner and recruiting is about to go to another level. A few official visits took place last weekend and more are coming this weekend as we build up to a crazy month of June. That is a month many decisions will be made.

Some visits in May could play key roles in summer decisions as well. Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons takes a look at five taking place this weekend.

Five-Star Plus+ WR Jeremiah Smith

Visiting: Georgia
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Committed to Ohio State
The buzz: It is not going to be easy for Georgia or any other program to lure Jeremiah Smith away from Ohio State. He loves Brian Hartline. Their connection is deep. Hartline and the Buckeyes are also producing top receivers each NFL Draft right now, so that appeals to the Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver as well. With that said, Georgia is in this. Georgia looks to be Ohio State’s biggest competition. Florida is being considered. Penn State is another school Smith is set to visit officially. But after visiting Athens earlier this spring and now with Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Dylan Raiola committed, the Bulldogs will look to make a significant move this weekend. Smith is described as a “generational” type of talent by more than one Power 5 college coach.

Five-Star DL Eddrick Houston

Visiting: USC
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Favors Georgia
The buzz: This is a big weekend for both Eddrick Houston and USC. The five-star defensive lineman has the Trojans as one of his top schools, but he has yet to visit the campus in L.A. This will likely be his only visit to USC before Houston makes a decision. Shaun Nua was at Buford High last week to check on Houston and the two have been in consistent contact for a few months. USC intrigues Houston and he will get his first look at the Trojans this weekend. USC is up against the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State. One source feels Alabama and Georgia are toward the top of Houston’s list.

Four-Star WR Bryant Wesco

Visiting: USC
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Favors Oklahoma
The buzz: Bryant Wesco goes into this weekend’s visit to USC viewed as a strong lean to Oklahoma. He has visited Norman the most, he loves the offense under Jeff Lebby and Wesco has a strong relationship with Emmett Jones. His sister was playing soccer in Norman before recently transferring to North Texas. USC has a lot of ground to make up and the Trojans will have their shot this weekend. Oklahoma has been trending for some time with LSU and TCU two schools to watch. Along with LSU and TCU, Wesco has official visits to Clemson and Tennessee locked in for June.

Four-Star WR Kwazi Gilmer

Visiting: UCLA
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Favors UCLA
The buzz: This is a big visit. Kwazi Gilmer is a top target for Chip Kelly, Jerry Neuheisel and the UCLA staff. He is a UCLA legacy with his mother going to school there and he is very interested in the Bruins. Heading into official visits, UCLA is trending at the top. This starts a run of official visits on five weekends in a row. Heading into this weekend, I like UCLA as the favorite with Washington running second. California and Stanford are two more in-state schools to watch.

Four-Star IOL Casey Poe

Visiting: Georgia
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Favors Oklahoma
The buzz: Can Georgia lure one of the best in Texas to Athens? Georgia sent Stacy Searels out to check on Casey Poe last week and since his visit earlier this spring, the Bulldogs have been viewed as a contender. Oklahoma is viewed as the favorite. He has visited Norman a handful of times and he has a strong connection with Bill Bedenbaugh. The word is Poe loves SEC football and the style of play at Georgia under Kirby Smart. Georgia will look to make a move with Poe this weekend. He has official visits lined up with Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Texas Tech in June. His official visit to Oklahoma is set for late July.
