Fights break out during New York Jets training camp

Fights break out during New York Jets training camp

The New York Jets offered all sorts of entertainment for their first open practice of training camp, including fights. Fans could see Aaron Rodgers fling the ball. Or, they could watch linemen lose their cool.

Now, teammates do get mad at each other in practice. But you don’t really see full on fights. Because the team allowed fans into watch the workout at Atlantic Health Jets Training Center, snippets of the skirmishes made it to social media.

And yes, we found some of these videos for your football enjoyment. Here’s one showing multiple players involved. Looks like more words were thrown around, as opposed to fists.

Could Jets fights be a ploy for Hard Knocks time?

Who knows, maybe the Jets players are trying to provide interesting content for Hard Knocks, which is focusing on the team this year. At it’s core, it’s a football reality show. And every reality star knows that to get more time on camera, you pick a fight. This is true from housewives to football players.

Defensive end Michael Clemons was one of the players doing the shoving. And that makes sense given how he reported to camp earlier this week. Yes, he made an entrance. The former Texas A&M standout was shirtless when he checked in. And he also was carrying a barbed-wire bat. The New York Post said that Clemons looked like Negan from The Walking Dead. He named the bat, Lucille. But he didn’t use the bat, Saturday.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the real-life, albeit fictitious, Negan, applauded Clemons for the look. But he did give a nod to his Seahawks while doing so. “Man, need to start pulling for the jets (distant 2 my hawks … don’t worry 12’s.) Jets Michael Clemons reports to camp with barbed-wire bat.”

Clemons was battling with tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who is headed into his second season with the Jets.

Connor Hughes, a reporter who covers the Jets, took note of the extracurriculars between plays.

He shared on Twitter: “very physical day for no pads. Lots of guys are hitting the ground — likely why the fighting. Wonder if coaches say something soon.”

Of course, Saturday wasn’t all about fighting. Those were the side shows. Most fans wanted to check out Aaron Rodgers, up close and personal. He didn’t disappoint. Harrison Glaser, another reporter who covers the Jets, posted some highlights.

The 4 best offensive highlights from #Jets 1st open practice today:

The team started practicing earlier than the rest of the NFL. That’s because the Jets play the Browns, Aug. 3, in the Hall of Fame game. Football season really is here.
