Father of four-star CG Jerry Easter is big believer in Jake Diebler
INDIANAPOLIS – La Lumiere (Ind.) four-star combo guard Jerry Easter II, a Toledo native, was one of the first prospects that Ohio State offered in the 2025 class. Jake Diebler has continued to recruit Easer heavily since Diebler was named full-time Buckeyes head coach.
Diebler’s consistent pursuit of Easter, the No. 27 overall player in the On3 Industry Rankings, means a lot to not only the younger Easter but also his father, Jerry Easter Sr., who has been building a bond with the Buckeyes’ head coach since his son started high school.
“Oh, I mean, with Diebler, I love him,” Easter Sr. told Lettermen Row. “He’s been in our life for a long time, so it’s a friendship before basketball. So, you know, I just got a special bond with Jake.”
Easter Sr. also enjoyed seeing Ohio State assistant coach Jamall Walker at multiple of his sons’ games at EYBL session III in Indianapolis last weekend.
“We loved it, man,” Easter Sr. said. “I mean, you know, they come out to support Jerry. Anybody [who] comes to support him, I love them — but definitely them, being that it is Ohio State.”
Ohio State is also getting help from a trio of former Buckeye basketball players in Easter’s recruitment.
“It’s a family thing,” Easter Sr. said. “Don’t forget about William Buford, Marc Loving and Jim Jackson. You know, Jim Jackson is my best friend. I was with him his whole career. All the years he was in the NBA, I lived with him. So, you know, that’s Jerry’s godfather.
“He did tell Jerry if he went to O-State that he’d let him wear his jersey.”
Easter Sr. also told Lettermen Row that while it isn’t scheduled yet, the family is tentatively planning to take an official visit to Ohio State the weekend of Nov. 30 for the Michigan football game.
Easter Jr. had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists in the first game that that Lettermen Row saw him play on Saturday at EYBL session III in Indianapolis. He then had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in the second game.
In total, Easter Jr. is averaging 19.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game playing with Team Final on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring. He is top 15 in scoring on the EYBL this season.
