Father of Braylon Conley gives his reasons USC won the battle

USC secure a commitment tonight from 2024 Humble (Tex.) Atascocita defensive back Braylon Conley. WeAreSC was on hand at his announcement tonight and was able to speak with several people about the decision.
One of the most important people WeAreSC spoke to was Braylon’s father. He gave his thoughts on USC and how Braylon ended up deciding on the Trojans. Football was obviously a big reason but the opportunities that come with USC were a heavy factor.
“We kind of prioritized his recruiting on football for sure, you know, the position room looks good for your opportunity to be there and such. But also the education side and you start talking about life after football. I always tell Braylon football is cool, it’s good, but it’s a game so there’s no guarantees in it. So when you do go to school for football, you want to make sure you’re going where a situation like with a USC degree. A college degree is good, but a USC degree is a more prestigious.”
“You got got top tier education and you got top tier football. Lincoln Riley came back and in one year what he did with that program, what the class is doing this year. A really good relationship with Coach Dante, coach Green, coach Riley. Then you talk about networking and the type of peers he’ll be around for life after football. I mean, LA is the who’s who when you’re talking about networking, the land of opportunity.”
The relationship of Donte Williams was the key to the whole thing
There was interest in USC from the jump for the Conley family, bunt much of it was generated from the presence of Donte Williams.
“Real good dude. No gray area. You know where you stand, he keeps it real with you and he got love for you. He’s going to critique you, he’s not going to sugarcoat anything. Braylon likes to be coached hard. so it’s just a perfect relationship there. The approach is there, the knowledge and development is there. So it’s a no-brainer.”
Donte Williams was not the only defensive coach on the staff who got some praise. Some of the younger staff members were key in their relationships and showing love.
“Coach Dante offered Braylon back in January. Coach Dante, Taylor Mays and Bookie [Radley-Hiles], the relationships was just there. And Braylon was really fun to them and they had a good vibe with each other and they recruited him the right way all those months.”
“We went to a lot of the schools when you go checking every boxing kind of situation. Coach Dante showed strong interest and with Coach Grinch, everybody was really impressed with him. So for us, we went up there and got around them on the unofficial for the spring game. We felt it. And then [Donte] came to see him a couple times in the spring. So the love was there on their end and the interest was there on ours. It was just a perfect match.”
Conley is only scratching the surface
Conley’s father was also excited about the potential of Braylon’s development at USC. He says what we see from Braylon now is still a brand new version of him.
“I knew he was good enough [to play at the next level], but what people have to understand too, he just started playing defensive back in 10th grade. He never play ‘DB’ before.”
“It’s crazy because you see what he can do now, but he’s working with Ro [Simon] and we got a lot of really good coaching at the school. So, he’s still got so much room for growing.”
