Fate Paid USC OL Commit Hayden Treter a Visit
Typically a college football program offers scholarships after evaluating film or seeing a prospect in person. Whether it’s at a football practice, game or at one of their on campus football camps in June, there’s often a process that leads to a scholarship offer.
With 3-Star OL Hayden Treter from Cherry Creek HS in Denver (CO), USC wasn’t evaluating his film nor had anyone on Lincoln Riley’s staff spoken to him prior to offering a scholarship on May 4.
USC Offensive Line Coach Josh Henson rolled thru Cherry Creek to basically check the box that’s says he’d visited all of the top prep programs in Colorado. Cherry Creek is in pursuit of its fifth straight CO State Title, so they’ve had some big-time ballers in recent years.
“I don’t think I had really talked to him at all until they offered me,” Treter said. “They came in the morning to watch us work out. It’s funny because he was actually late and I was, oh man, he’s not gonna show up. Then he showed up, liked what he saw. from me and we were just talked every week after that.”

I’m told Henson didn’t really know much about Treter, but he phoned Riley right after he watched Treter and the Bruins work out during Spring Practice. As it turns out, Henson and I were on the same page with our first impression of Treter.
“Coach Henson said I looked like Andrew Vorhees,” said Treter. “Andrew Vorhees, but with better, better feet. He also said that I was already further along physically than him at this stage. Right now it looks like guard is where I’ll play. Coach Henson usually likes more athletic guys at Guard. You know, people he likes to pull and move around a lot.
“But, it really depends when I get there. Tennessee had me as a tackle just ’cause they saw I could carry so much weight and all that stuff. So, I mean, we’ll see.”
From offer to committed in 31 days
Not long after Treter was offered, he announced his plan to take a USC official visit June 2-4. Prior to even arriving home in Colorado, Treter announced his commitment to the Trojans on social media. We had an article ready as we were alerted about the commitment announcement.
“The USC offer was a really cool one to get,” Treter said previously. “I have an uncle who recently passed away from cancer who actually went to USC. So USC has actually been a big part of my life recently.”
Treter first found support of the Trojans from his uncle, but now it truly is a family connection with him now set to play his college football in Los Angeles.
“Everyone there made it feel like home,” said Treter of his USC commitment. “The people are amazing in all places, honesty, football, and genuine kindness. There’s a big family here and everyone is here to do the same thing and that’s win. I have every tool I need to succeed.
“I think the mentality there, it’s an elite program. It’s very family oriented. When you’re there, it’s like Oklahoma in L.A. Everyone’s super nice, everyone’s super close and they care a lot about their players. And you know, with that mentality and then the coaching skills, the talent with the players they go, they can only go up.”
Scott’s Thoughts
My first thought is there was no way Treter was 270 pounds as listed in the On3 database. Turns out I was right, Treter said he’s about 6-7 and 320 pounds right now. That’s significantly bigger than what was submitted into the NFL Algorithm used by directors of scouting and rankings use.
Although he’s pegged to likely play Offensive Guard at USC, Treter brings his impressive versatility with hi to SoCal next May. He could easily play tackle, but definitely see what Henson loves him at Guard. He does move extremely well and he’s a very athletic 320 pounder. He doesn’t move quite like Jonah Monheim does, but he’s that type of the lineman.
If I’m ranking Hayden Treter, he gets a four-star ranking. I’ve seen a lot of 4-Star ranked guys I’d take Treter over, including Mater Dei IOL DeAndre Carter.
