Expectations, strengths, 1 area for improvement, 1 prediction for Auburn corner Nehemiah Pritchett

Expectations, strengths, 1 area for improvement, 1 prediction for Auburn corner Nehemiah Pritchett

Welcome to the player edition of the 3-2-1. In this style, we will talk through three expectations for each player, two of their strengths, and one are in which they can improve in. We will also throw in a prediction for each player. Fall camp and the season are right around the corner, so talking season drags on for now.

There are several unknowns with the 2023 Tigers. With so many new faces from the transfer portal and coming in as freshman, it seems logical to go through each potential starter or key role player and talk about expectations.

Today, we are looking at the expectations of senior corner Nehemiah Pritchett from Jackson (Ala.). Pritchett has been the starter for over three years.

Two expectations, one prediction

— Pritchett is expected to start opposite of DJ James at the field corner. He can also play the boundary corner and has had some success there. He and James will probably go back and forth between those spots.

— Pritchett has been through several different defensive systems now. In this system, he should be in man coverage more than zone coverage. Pritchett is a veteran now and should take to the new system with ease.

PREDICTION: Pritchett will go back to form as a man coverage corner. He is one of the fastest players on the team and should take his game up a notch as it is his last season. Pritchett will become more physical and get called for pass interference a few times, but he will clean up some coverage and become more consistent in making plays on the ball. Pritchett will take a kick to the house as a kick returner.

Two strengths

— If you go back and watch some earlier film on Pritchett, he was excellent in man coverage. In the last year, it seemed like Pritchett had fallen off as a man coverage corner. He has had plenty of success doing it and will be relied on to do it again. He should be better this season.

— Speed is on Pritchett’s side. He may not be perfect in coverage at all times, but his speed is impressive enough to move him around the formation.

One area for improvement

— There were times during Pritchett’s slump that he would trail too often in coverage. I think he will be more aggressive. For one, Ron Roberts’ defense will call for it. Also, Pritchett can’t get beat like he did a few times a year ago. I think confidence in coverage is something Pritchett must take back control on.
