Eugene Brooks ready to take in the Texas experience

When the Texas Longhorns staff receives credit for thorough evaluation of high school prospects, guys like Eugene Brooks are the reason.
Offensive line coach Kyle Flood made a stop at Sierra Canyon High during the spring evaluation period and instantly got the 6-foot-4, 335-pound road grader set up for an official visit.
Now, Eugene “B.J.” Brooks and his mom are just three days away from an official visit.
“My thoughts are I just want to get down there,” Brooks said Monday night. “See everything there. Get a feel for what the players are like, the coaches and the city. Get the chance to see what they are building and get a feel for how I would fit.”
Brooks has been in contact with two Texas freshman to learn more about the program ahead of his visit. Freshman receiver DeAndre Moore and freshman offensive tackle Payton Kirkland have given positive feedback.
This weekend, time spent with Flood and Steve Sarkisian will key for Brooks.
“I’ve talked to Coach Flood a lot. If I come there, he will develop me and guide me. He will make me into a better player, and man. I know that they have been developing the lineman, and building the program.”
The visit will be the first for Brooks since the summer going into his sophomore year.
Oklahoma impressed last weekend
Brooks made his first official visit last weekend. The Oklahoma Sooners were the first program to take a swing at the Southern California lineman.
“It was great. I would probably give it a solid nine out of 10. Just building that relationship with Coach (Bill) Bedenbaugh. Learning about the lineman that he has put in the league. A first rounder and third rounder just last year. How he develops his players.”
Bedenbaugh sold Brooks being a perfect fit for the program.
“Basically, he told me that I would fit right in. I did love it. They really showed my family the hospitality.”
After Texas, Brooks is scheduled to visit Georgia June 23-25. Oregon and USC are still pushing for visits, but he is yet to set those up.
Brooks will graduate from Sierra Canyon in December, and enroll in college in January. Getting a jump on the college game is his primary goal. Inside Texas expects a mid-July decision, if not sooner.
