Emptying The Notebook: Georgia’s biggest weekend since G-Day

There’s really only one thing going on at Georgia right now and it’s the Scavenger Hunt. The Bulldogs will welcome some massive targets to campus this weekend and what happens will go a long way toward shaping the finished product of the 2024 class. Below, we’re sharing what know and quite a few thoughts about the situation as we Empty the Notebook.
I made mention of this on The Georgia Show on Wednesday but I want to do it again here. May is an opportunity for players to get home and spend time with their families before the summer grind begins. Well, several of those players were asked to come back to Athens to help host recruits. I’m told that everyone asked dropped what they were doing and made it happen. Culture, right?
I know many think that Dylan Raiola is going to be the Pied Piper of this class and I understand where that excitement comes from. But I’ve been doing this for a long time and it’s rare that guys just fall in line and follow a recruit, no matter how great or popular that player is, to a school.
What’s going to happen here is that Georgia’s going to get an increased look from most of the guys they are recruiting. It’s going to give them a boost. Guys like Mike Matthews, Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Wingo, and Jaden Reddell are more possible now than they were before. I know that most of you know that but maybe you needed that reminder or those new to the recruiting scene needed to hear it. It feel like some might already be getting a bit antsy and Raiola just committed earlier this week.
There’s no bigger visit this weekend than the one from defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye. He’s a defensive end/5-technique target and we all know that is a big position of need in this class. I spoke with someone I trust on Thursday who called him a rich-man’s Tramel Walthour. Similar skillset in regards to size, toughness, and physicality but has more twitch and explosiveness to him. Per the incomparable Jake Reuse, he called Georgia his dream offer soon after the Bulldogs let him know he had one. This visit came up quick. Let’s see if Tray Scott and company can knock it out of the park.
I don’t know where he’s going to end up being rated but I’ve been told that people inside Georgia’s building are pretty high on Marcus Harrison, a three-star prospect out of New York. I haven’t seen much about the kid but from what I’ve been able to gather, this isn’t a situation where UGA is going after a massive lineman who is going to have to drop some weight and get his body right before he plays. He has some freakish size and athleticism and is raw from a technical standpoint. Interested to see how this plays out because I’m also told that Wisconsin wants him badly and we know the Badgers’ reputation at that position.
Lastly, a quick team note, but I am told that both Marvin Jones Jr. and Jalen Walker are either cleared from their shoulder surgeries this winter or are expected to be in the next couple of weeks. It looks like both will get nearly a full summer of lifting in before preseason camp and that’s a big deal.
