Emory Floyd finds new home with former South Carolina coach

Former South Carolina defensive back Emory Floyd has found his new home with a former Gamecocks coach.

Floyd will play for former South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains at Appalachian State, Floyd announced over the weekend.

Loggains landed the App State head job in December after two seasons in Columbia.

Floyd is not the only former South Carolina player who could end up in Boone, N.C.

Quarterback Dante Reno reportedly was set to visit App State this weekend, while the Mountaineers are also trying to make a run at offensive lineman Kam Pringle, GamecockCentral has learned.

Floyd played in just seven games during his three years in Columbia. In those seven appearances, he collected two total tackles and a pass breakup, all in the 2023 season.

South Carolina added defensive back transfers Brandon Cisse and Myles Norwood this past offseason, both of whom will be a major part of the Gamecocks’ rotation his season.

As a member of the Class of 2022, Floyd was a four-star recruit out of Powder Springs (Ga.) Hillgrove, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He was the No. 39 overall prospect in the state, the No. 38 cornerback in the class and the No. 399 overall prospect in the class.
