Emerging defensive recruit planning Notre Dame return visit

Notre Dame will welcome back to campus one of its top 2025 targets for the third time in four months. Emerging safety Ethan Long from Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School plans to return to South Bend with his family on July 30 for ND’s recruiting event, he told Blue & Gold on Thursday.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Long visited Notre Dame for the first time as a college football recruit on April 14. He then picked up a scholarship offer from the Fighting Irish on May 30, about two weeks after defensive coordinator Al Golden attended his high school’s showcase.
Long returned to Notre Dame on June 22 for its Evaluation Camp III and received individual instruction from head coach Marcus Freeman and safeties coach Chris O’Leary.
“They were both saying the same thing, which was great because that means they’re on the same page and see the same thing,” Long told Blue & Gold. “It was just about when to look for the ball. They said you’re going to get a ball call, but when (the receivers) hands go up, they want you to be aggressive and use your athleticism to go up and get it.”
In addition to the Irish, Long also reports eight Power Five scholarship offers. Of those offers, he’s visited Boston College, Duke, Ohio State, Penn State and Pittsburgh.
Long does not yet have an On3 or On3 Industry Ranking rating. His On3 NIL Valuation annual value is $13,700. One primary recruiting media service considers Long a four-star recruit and the No. 22 safety and No. 1 prospect in Connecticut in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
He is a cousin of former Irish wide receiver and captain Austin Webster. Long is also a teammate with Irish 2025 three-star offensive tackle target Matty Augustine.
Several other recruiting targets visiting Notre Dame for its July 30 cookout
So far, Blue & Gold has confirmed three other targets will attend Notre Dame’s recruiting cookout on July 30.
Earlier on Thursday, Blue & Gold reported that 2024 three-star linebacker Dominik Hulak from Chicago Immaculate Conception would make the trip to South Bend on July 30 for an unofficial visit.
The On3 Industry Ranking considers the 6-3, 225-pound Hulak the No. 380 overall player, No. 36 linebacker and No. 10 prospect in Illinois in the 2025 class. He has an 87.83 rating.
On Wednesday, Blue & Gold reported 2024 defensive lineman Jarquez Carter from Newberry (Fla.) High will visit Notre Dame for the first time on July 30.
After a standout sophomore season, the 6-3, 270-pound Carter picked up scholarship offers from Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Penn State and UCF. He had 78 tackles (36 solo), 23 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three caused fumbles and a fumble recovery in 10 games. Carter does not yet have an On3 or On3 Industry Ranking.
Blue & Gold also confirmed that Waukesha (Wisc.) Catholic Memorial’s Owen Strebig will be in town. It will be the 2025 four-star offensive tackle’s third recruiting visit to Notre Dame since mid-April.
The 6-7, 295-pound Strebig is the No. 70 overall player, No. 10 offensive tackle and No. 1 prospect in 2025, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He has a 93.11 rating.
On July 27, Lucedale (Miss.) George County 2025 quarterback Deuce Knight will return to Notre Dame. Knight is the No. 61 overall player, No. 3 quarterback and No. 2 prospect in Mississippi, per the On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-4 1/2, 180-pounder has a 93.29 rating.
