Elite Michigan DL commit Nate Marshall is locked in with the Wolverines: ‘I’m all Go Blue’

When Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick four-star defensive lineman Nate Marshall made his way up to Ann Arbor for Michigan’s spring game last month, committing was not on his mind.

That was before he was blown away by the weekend with Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines. He left in awe of the Big Ten program and promptly announced his pledge less than 24 hours after returning home.

“It just felt right,” Marshall told On3’s Kyle Kelly on Sunday, reflecting on his decision to commit to U-M.

It’s been just about two weeks since Marshall came off the board. Schools like Auburn, Miami and Illinois were in the running for his pledge this spring and have since reached back out following his commitment. The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder isn’t looking to give any other program the time of day, however.

“Some schools have tried to text me every now and then, but I don’t answer,” he said.

Now one of five commitments in Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class, Marshall doesn’t see a reason to talk to other schools. He likes what’s on the horizon with his future college home as Moore and Co. embark on a title-defending 2024 campaign.

“I’m pretty confident in what we have going on at Michigan with our recruiting class coming in. I feel like we can build it up to be great,” he said. “The ’24 class is already great, plus the people we have there now. I feel like we’re fine at Michigan.”

Marshall is all in with Michigan

Marshall had previously praised Michigan’s culture and environment before he announced his commitment. Multiple impressive trips to campus and some top atmospheres inside The Big House helped seal the deal on his decision, too. The blue-chipper found that feeling he was looking for.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say they have something that other schools don’t. It’s just the feeling I had there, I didn’t have it nowhere else,” Marshall said.

Despite some of the top programs in the SEC being in pursuit, along with Miami — a program that has previously hauled in some top talent in Illinois — Marshall has seen players like him succeed at Michigan. The chance to stay close to home was a bonus, too.

“Really, I didn’t really care where I went. Shoot, anywhere I went was getting a dog. SEC, ACC, Big Ten. I just felt, you know, the Big Ten, they have history of producing D-linemen…so why not? Stay close to home so my parents could watch me,” he said.

“I’m all Go Blue.”

Marshall is the No. 40 overall prospect and No. 4 DL in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the top-ranked player in Illinois.
