Elite edge Jordan Ross, entering official visit, says Florida Gators are ‘deep’ in his recruitment

Elite edge Jordan Ross, entering official visit, says Florida Gators are ‘deep’ in his recruitment

Does Florida have a legitimate chance with 4-star edge Jordan Ross of Birmingham (Ala.) Vestavia Hills — and if so, why?

“Definitely,” Ross told Gators Online at the On3 NIL Elite Series presented by Mizuno. “Playing time and academics. What I really want to do, they have. They have a great sports broadcasting (program).”

Ross will officially visit the Gators this weekend with his mother. They’ll arrive in Gainesville, Fla., on Friday.

“Florida is kind of deep in there, I won’t lie to you,” Ross said. “Deep in there. They showed a lot of love the first time I came down there. … And I was talking to most of the coaches and they love me because I went there on a weekday. So the whole campus was busy. They kept telling me about the academics and they made room for me.”

Florida freshman defensive lineman Kelby Collins will be Ross’ player-host.

“Kelby Collins — he was a recruit from Alabama. So when I go back to my official to Florida, he’s supposed to be my host,” Ross said. “And when I went down there, he showed me a lot of love. He was telling me about how Gainesville was a great place to be.

Ross is a top-50 national recruit

Ross is a big-time target with an elite ranking. The 6-foot-4.5, 215-pound edge is the No. 33 overall recruit nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

With Florida, he said he thus far has communicated most with defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong.

“He’s great,” Ross said. ”He shows me a lot of love and he tells me everything. He does a great job of reaching out. He knows a lot and he does a lot of research and he made it down to my school a couple of times. And he’s told me about how Gainesville is a great place and said, ‘We have a bunch of good development, too.’”

Playing time to Jordan Ross is a big pitch for the Gators

Ross said he sees the opportunity to compete early at Florida.

“They said they love my speed. And they say I’d be a great edge guy — and that I’d have a bunch of playing time when I get there,” Ross said. “I wouldn’t have a starting job— that’s what Billy Napier said, but he said, ‘You’re going to get playing time.”

Ross likes that Napier is active in his recruitment.

“It shows a lot. He talks to me sometimes with me and my mom in a group chat and says how we would love Gainesville,” Ross said. “He tells me, ‘We need you here’ and says Gainesville’s a great place and ‘I love that you aren’t just here for the photo shoot, you actually came down here and learned everything.’

What does Ross want to see and experience this weekend?

“Getting shown more love and getting shown how they’ll develop me,” he said. “And seeing if the position coach, Mike Peterson — seeing if he’s going to stay the whole time I’m there.”
