Elite 4-star receiver Aaron Gregory intrigued by NC State visit
NC State offered Aaron Gregory in the summer before his sophomore season. Nearly eight months later, the elite four-star wide receiver took his first trip to Raleigh.
Family connections to the city, plus a strong early bond with the coaching staff, piqued Gregory’s interest in the Wolfpack. The Douglasville (Ga.) Douglas County High star stopped by campus April 16.
He toured campus with the staff, met with wide receivers coach Joker Phillips and spent a lot of time with assistant director of recruiting LaFayette Stewart. NC State’s staff spent time getting to know him as a person, and that resonated with the 6-2, 170-pound sophomore superstar.
“I think it was the fact that the coaches were really just trying to build a bond,” Gregory said. “They were really into me as a player… I feel like that stood out to me. They were just cool people too.”
This was Gregory’s first time on campus, but he already knew a little bit about the program because his cousin owns Dame’s Chicken and Waffles— a restaurant that sometimes caters to NC State.
Coming out of this visit, the four-star prospect is eyeing another visit later this year.
“I’ll probably hit a game at NC State, for sure,” Gregory said.
When he returns to campus, Gregory said he would like to meet the current players and get to know his potential future teammates. He said NC State is one of the schools showing the most consistent love right now, joining LSU, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Colorado.
“Those are the schools that are standing out,” Gregory said.
The receiver also holds offers from Georgia, Alabama, USC and many others. Gregory is looking for a coaching staff that will spend the time necessary to form a genuine, lasting connection with him.
So far, the Wolfpack has put in the effort with the elite pass catcher from Georgia. His bond with Phillips is a significant part of that.
“He’s a great coach, a cool person too… It felt different because it wasn’t only just football. I really felt they were trying to build a bond with me as a person too” Gregory said.
During his sophomore season, Gregory caught 41 passes for 795 yards and 8 touchdowns. On3 considers him the No. 30 class of 2026 recruit in the country, the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 4 prospect in Georgia.
