Elite 2026 prospects high on Miami after making game-day visits in consecutive weeks

Miami’s list of recruits at last Thursday’s game against Bethune-Cookman was fairly limited, but two of the Hurricanes’ top prospects in the 2026 class have made trips to Hard Rock in consecutive weeks.
Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage 2026 four-star quarterback Dia Bell and 2026 receiver Malachi Toney — one of the Hurricanes’ two 2026 commits — both attended Miami’s Week 2 48-33 win over then-No. 23 Texas A&M and the Hurricanes’ Week 3 48-7 blowout of Bethune-Cookman. Both were on Miami’s campus this summer for 7-on-7 camps, and both have now made multiple trips to Miami since the end of the August dead period.
Bell is the No. 48 overall prospect in the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking and No. 3 quarterback in the class. Toney is not yet ranked as the wait is on for On3’s initial On300 to be released for the 2026 class … but he is a highly-touted and elite receiver widely recognized in the South Florida high school football scene.
“I just love it at Miami,” Toney said when asked what keeps bringing him back for return visits. “That’s really it. I just love it.”
Bell, who received his Miami offer earlier this summer, has remained similarly high on the Canes as his hometown school.
“Miami’s a great place,” Bell said. “Coach (Shannon) Dawson’s a great coach, and I’m just trying to keep building my relationship with him as I grow in my process and as he keeps doing his thing at Miami. I’m just trying to build my relationships there.”
Both have been impressed with Miami’s 3-0 start and the revamped offense in head coach Mario Cristobal’s second year as the program leader, and it’s played a major role in their respective interest in the Hurricanes. Toney became Miami’s second 2026 pledge, joining IMG Academy defensive back Ksani Jiles who committed earlier this summer, and Bell says he talks to Miami’s coaching staff as often if not more often than any other program.
Both have already landed more than a dozen offers, but both are content with staying in South Florida if it proves to be the best option when they graduate. Toney has developed a close relationship with receivers coach Kevin Beard, and Bell has greatly admired Dawson’s immediate offensive success despite being a relatively late hire and joining Miami’s staff in early spring.
“It’s been a great start for them,” Bell said. “They’re going back to that Miami football that they had back in the day. They’re bringing it back, and everything’s looking beautiful. Their offense is electric. They’ve come out and executed.”
Both could potentially return to Miami for additional visits this fall but have not yet locked in any specific dates.
CaneSport’s Take
We’ve been high on both Bell and Toney for some time, and it’s no surprise Bell is already a top-50 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking. We expect Toney to jump into the On300 in the initial 2026 rankings as well.
