Elijah Robinson reveals if he hopes to be a head coach one day

The Texas A&M Aggies defensive line coach Elijah Robinson probably has hopes and goals beyond life as the Aggies defensive line coach. But when it comes to coaching, does Robinson have an eye toward being a college football head coach? And if so, how far along into this future does he see that happening? Well, according to Robinson, he’s not looking to the future; he is looking at right now. And what he wants to do right now is build the best defensive line in the country.

“I am forever grateful for the opportunity that Coach Fisher gave me. And the biggest thing for me is doing the best job I can do where I’m at,” said Robinson. “And that’s being a defensive line coach at Texas A&M, and I’m going to do that as best as I can. Whatever opportunity comes from that, that’ll be God’s blessing. But right now, I gotta focus on trying to put the best d line out on the field for you guys this upcoming season.”

The likely next stop for Robinson would probably be defensive coordinator somewhere in college football, whenever the opportunity presents itself. Currently, he is the Aggies’ defensive line coach, run game coordinator and assistant head coach. If he can produce an elite defensive line this season at Texas A&M, fans should not be surprised if other programs come knocking at their door, attempting to make them their next defensive coordinator or maybe even head coach.

Jimbo Fisher: ‘I don’t worry about losing my job’

While Robinson is swatting away thoughts about being head coach, Jimbo Fisher is dealing with the idea that he could lose his head coaching opportunity at Texas A&M this season if the talk around his job security becomes a reality. But if you ask the Aggies head man, he’s not concerned with any of that talk.

At the 2023 SEC Football Media Day Kickoff, the Aggies head man had a chat with ESPN’s Paul Finebaum. And during the conversation, the subject of Fisher’s job security came up, which led to an interesting back and forth between the two and this statement by the Aggies head coach.

“OK. I don’t worry about that. I don’t worry about losing my job,” said Fisher. “I worry about not doing a good job for our players and our fans, and the people on our support staff who count on us every day to keep a job. That’s what motivates me and drives me.

“I don’t worry about myself. I’ve never worried on myself, whether I had a one-year contract or a 10-year contract. I’m worried about the people who work under us, the players having a great experience and winning, and our fans getting a great program… The rest of that stuff you can’t, you don’t control that.”
