Dylan Crews shares emotions of late home run against Tennessee

Heading to the ballpark on Tuesday, getting one out for a home run was always going to be difficult. The wind was blowing in for the elimination game between LSU and Tennessee. Conditions called for a pitcher’s duel and we certainly got one in Omaha.
Even so, LSU did find a way to hit a long ball in the ninth inning. Dylan Crews was the one who got it over the right-field bullpen, giving the Tigers some insurance runs. If Tennessee ever did have a chance of coming back in the bottom half, Crews’ home run killed the possibility.
Crews described the emotion of getting the home run, mentioning how the weather was playing. Either way, hitting a homer is never going to be a bad feeling for a batter, no matter the situation. Just another example of why Crews is the best hitter in baseball.
“It felt good,” Crews said. “The wind was pushing some of the ball back in today. But it was good to get one out at the right moment and put us up a couple of more runs in the ninth, extend the game. Felt good. A new day, go out there, and do what I do.”
Crews hit a two-run home run, giving LSU a 5-0 lead. Riley Cooper was able to sit Tennessee down in order in the bottom of the ninth, securing the win. A big moment for Crews even if the homer ultimately did not decide the outcome of the game.
In an earlier at-bat, Crews got into one before the wind pushed it down just before the warning track. On a different night, that likely would have been gone. The following inning but next man up Tommy White suffered the same fate.
Crews is now onto the next game, with another elimination game facing LSU. Wednesday will present another battle against Wake Forest, with the Demon Deacons having the advantage. Two wins will be required by the Tigers in order to make the College World Series championship series.
A tough task but nothing that has not been done before.
Those in purple and gold will be praying the wind dies down a bit, giving their hitters the opportunity to show off their elite power. Especially at the top of the order, with Crews and White looking to set the tone early.
On Tuesday though, Crews can just appreciate his ninth-inning blast.
