Dylan Cardwell hilariously sums up Johni Broome’s return, made 3-pointer: ‘The biggest balls in balls history’

Every year in March Madness characters emerge. And Auburn big man Dylan Cardwell has turned into one of the most colorful. His take on Johni Broome‘s return from injury will leave you in stitches.

Broome suffered an apparent elbow injury midway through the second half of an Elite Eight contest against Michigan State. Auburn had the lead at the time, but things suddenly started looking very dicey as Broome headed to the locker room in serious pain.

But, remarkably, Broome came back out to the floor only minutes later. Then he checked in.

Within moments, he pulled down a one-handed rebound. Then he got free from beyond the 3-point line and pulled the trigger. BANG. The roof nearly came down as a heavily pro-Auburn crowd reacted.

So on to Cardwell’s post-game summation of the Johni Broome return. It’s a dandy.

“What was that moment like?” Cardwell said, according to sports writer Bryan Matthews. “The biggest balls in balls history. He’s probably got blue balls. Excuse me. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, Lord. He needs a 30 for 30 on that shot alone.”

Quite the colorful description. Cardwell wasn’t done explaining the magnitude of the moment, either. That 3-pointer was a major difference-maker after Johni Broome had gone down.

“Going down, everyone and their mama in the crowd thought it was over,” Cardwell said. “And he comes back out. You would have thought Derek Jeter came out for his last at-bat. For him to knock down that three, I’ve never heard an arena that loud in my life.

“My biggest regret is not watching that game as a fan. I can’t imagine what that was like as a fan. I’m like, ‘Ahh, we’ve got to win, we’ve got to win.’ I didn’t get to enjoy that moment like everybody else. But I’m going to watch this game back on the bus.”

Auburn would rally behind Broome’s return and hold on down the stretch for a 70-64 win. The win sent the Tigers to the Final Four, where they’ll take on fellow No. 1 seed Florida.

As for Johni Broome, his status will be a key question mark going forward. Broome is averaging 18.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 blocks per game.
