Drew Beam, Christian Moore earn invites to USA Baseball Collegiate National Team

Tennessee pitcher Drew Beam and second baseman Christian Moore are the latest Tennessee Volunteers to receive invitations to participate in the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team workouts this summer. The pair become the 27th and 28th members of the program to do so.

The two join the total of six Volunteers over the last three seasons to be invited to the workouts – along with Drew Gilbert (2021), Blade Tidwell (2021), Chase Burns (2022), Chase Dollander (2022) and Beam himself (2022).

Beam becomes the first player in program history to be invited multiple times since VFL J.P. Arencibia in 2005 and 2006.

The right-handed starter made every weekly start this season (17), going 9-4 over 84.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 3.63. Beam struck out 88 batters, walked 23 and threw one seven inning complete game. His three postseason starts were stellar, combining for 17.2 inning pitched of four-run baseball where he allowed 17 hits with 26 strikeouts and only three walks. He was also named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week on May 23.

Moore’s sophomore campaign ended with a solid .304 average – where he finished second on the team with 17 home runs while driving in 50 base runners. The second baseman led the squad with a .444 on-base percentage, 16 stolen bases and 66 runs scored. He was Tennessee’s best hitter against left-handed pitching with an average well north of .320 and his postseason production was solid as he delivered a key two-run single in a win over Stanford in the College World Series and registered a 7-for-10 clip in the Clemson Regional.

The 2023 Collegiate National Team Training Camp that will compete in a four-game Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad series in North Carolina. This year’s roster features 58 of the nation’s top non-draft eligible players. It begins on June 23, with the first game of the Stars vs. Stripes series scheduled for June 25 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

A final 26-man roster will then be selected to compete in a pair of five-game series against Chinese Taipei and Japan, with games taking place across the Carolinas from June 30-July 12.
