Dowell Loggains on College Football 25 ratings: ‘If you don’t like your rating, play better’

The EA College Football 25 video game is out and it’s already become incredibly popular. However, for some players, they may not like their rating in the game. That’s something South Carolina Gamecocks offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has a solution for, play better.

One concern some coaches may have had about the game and players being rated was dealing with egos relating to the game. However, Loggains argued that there’s nothing he can tell players but that they need to improve.

“If you don’t like your rating, play better,” Dowell Loggains said. “Get more play time. Make plays on Saturday.”

Ultimately, Loggains doesn’t want the focus to be on the game or being frustrated by the game. Instead, it should be on doing your job and improving.

“I don’t know much about the game. Obviously, I don’t live in a cave. I’ve heard stuff, but… if you’re not happy with something, work. Go out and do your job,” Loggains said.

“I don’t know how they get the ratings. I don’t know who comes about that. I was not consulted on any ratings, more importantly. So, I can tell these guys, ‘I don’t know. I don’t play. I’m not sure on that. So, just play well.’”

Dowell Loggains is going into his second season as the offensive coordinator at South Carolina. Prior to that, he was the tight ends coach at Arkansas and a long-time NFL assistant coach.

Certainly, on the field, Loggains and South Carolina are going to need to work on plenty of things going into the 2024 season. Last year, the Gamecocks were 77th in scoring offense with 26 points per game. They were also just 83rd in total offense with 363.1 yards per game. They did that with Spencer Rattler at quarterback, who has since moved on and will be difficult for South Carolina to replace.

One of the biggest keys within that is going to be able to fix the amount of pressure getting to whoever the Gamecocks do play at quarterback. Last year, South Carolina was 118th in sacks allowed, giving up 3.42 sacks per game.

Given the challenges that South Carolina needs to take on, having players frustrated by their EA College Football 25 rating would be the type of distraction that Loggains doesn’t need going into the season. So, for now, it’s best for the team to focus on getting better and letting those ratings change as they prove their worth on the field.
