DJ Lagway has ‘amazing’ official visit, says Gators doing ‘right stuff’ with 5-star WR Jeremiah Smith

DJ Lagway’s official visit to Florida this weekend served two purposes for the 5-star Gators quarterback commit from Willis (Texas).

1: He got to recruit.

2: He learned more about the staff and his future on the field.

Lagway’s biggest target? That would be 5-star Ohio State receiver commit Jeremiah Smith.

“We got a lot of time (together),” Lagway told reporters. “I have a really good relationship with him. I feel like he’s a very quiet guy and I feel like with me and him, he opens up to me a little bit. We talk and just talk about some good stuff.”

How does Lagway feel about Florida’s chances?

“I’m going to keep quiet on that,” he said. “I feel like we’re doing the right stuff. That’s all I’m going to say.”

Overall, Lagway, the No. 23 recruit nationally in the On3 Industry Rankings, loved the visit.

DJ Lagway has amazing time in Gainesville

“It was amazing,” Lagway said. “I built a lot of relationships with these guys (recruits). Just trying to push them to come to Florida … there’s no better place than this. Then telling them to enjoy their decision and take their time with it and hopefully it’s Florida.”

Even though Lagway has been committed to Florida for awhile, the Gators haven’t taken their foot off the gas with him.

“I feel like they did a really good job, doing their thing,” Lagway said. “Dotting their I’s, crossing their T’s. I feel like we’re in the right spot and getting the best players in the country.”

Lagway is ready get to Gainesville … and get to work

Meeting with the staff was big, he added. What did they talk about this weekend?

“Just the QB development,” Lagway said. “It’s top tier with Coach (Ryan) O’hara, Coach (Billy) Napier — those guys. Just really leaning form them. I can’t wait to get here. Just grow and development. That’s the biggest thing for me. We were definitely talking about the future and definitely seeing how I fit in .. and can fit in right away and get some packages and some playing time right away. I feel like it’s going to be good but I’ve got to work for all of it. That’s why I can’t wait to get here and just work and continue to get better.”
