Derek Carr claps back at Michael Thomas callout during Saints loss to Panthers
New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr responded postgame after Michael Thomas blasted him on social media during a 23-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
The former Saints receiver made several posts on X, formerly Twitter, calling out Carr using explicit language. Thomas played one season with Carr and was released by the Saints this offseason.
“Derek Carr for you I been told yall shit sad,” Thomas wrote in his first tweet. “Dude scary and panic and just throw the ball. Get him the f out of here he so ass.”
Thomas would go on to say Davante Adams “needed 180 targets just to catch 100 passes” when Carr was his quarterback in 2022. All of this occurred after Olave suffered a concussion on the play prior and Thomas seemed to insinuate it was Carr’s throw that led to it.
“Dude tried to lie and say I was jealous of them making Chris (Olave) WR1 whole time he can’t even get him a decent ball,” Thomas wrote in one of his posts. “He need his ass whooped.”
Carr was asked about the tweets from Thomas postgame and explained how he feels seeing it.
“I have love for Mike and when he does that, I don’t really care for it, obviously,” he said. “I’ve had so many teammates over the years and he’s like the one dude that didn’t get along with me. I don’t know what I did to him. I don’t know why he feels that way. I’m sorry for whatever he’s dealing with to make him feel like he’s gotta do that, but he’s never called me during any of this. My phone number has never changed. I have in fact called him on different occasions just to try.
“Sometimes you can try as hard as you want and it just doesn’t work out, and that’s OK. I don’t know why he feels any type of way. I didn’t see it. I won’t see it because I ignore everything — good and bad. So it’s unfortunate, especially coming from a player like that. But I wish him the best. I hope he gets on a team and does what he want to do and loves it. I’ll never change. I love him in that way and wish him the best.”
