Denny Hamlin shares update on puppy he took home from St. Louis

Denny Hamlin gave an update on the puppy his family took home after competing in St. Louis. On his Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin revealed that they submitted to DNA test to what type of dog she is.

“We keep hearing different people and they’re showing their picks of their dogs that are very similar,” Hamlin said. “My concern is it’s got mastiff in it, and if that’s the case, then it could be definitely a big dog. It’s too early to speculate. This thing is multicultural.”

Hamlin made it clear that he didn’t want to keep the dog and said his sister should take care of her. “I wanted her to, but the folks at 23XI have raised their hand to say that after extensive training, they would love to have a shop dog,” he said. “…I think that would be good for the employees to have that hound just walking around and just cuddling up next to somebody in their office for a little while, somebody takes it home that night and it’s no obligation to them long term.”

Hamlin made it clear that he’s not trying to “pawn” the dog off. “I’m fine with this little trial period,” he explained. “Let’s just see how it goes for another week and then let’s decide. If she left tomorrow, I’d be okay because I got Milo here. he’s great.”

Denny Hamlin said the puppy provides ‘short-term’ happiness

Last week, Hamlin revealed on the podcast that the family took in a puppy they discovered in St. Louis. The family wanted to keep the dog but Hamlin was thinking the happines wouldn’t last long term.

“This is short-term happiness and a long-term pain in the a**,” Hamlin explained. And when it comes to his kids taking care of the dog, Hamlin said, “They’re not going to do it. They don’t ever pick up after themselves. They are not going to take care of this dog.” Hamlin added, “We’ll figure this out for sure.”

Hamlin also went to Instagram to share a photo of the puppy and ask if it belonged to anyone. He wrote: “Found by the river. If this is your dog DM me with a pic of this pup and we will get it returned.”

Hamlin’s update on the dog comes after he suffered engine failure in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma on Sunday. The 43-year old came into Sunday’s race with five-race streak of finishing in the top five.
